Hybrid Worship

August 28, 2022

Welcome to Worship! It's our joy to tell you: No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

Peace for your Sunday, beloveds.

Spiritual Formation - Coming Soon

Spiritual Formation at Shadow Rock

"Sermon Reboot" happens today! This is an informal time with Pastor Ken, going deeper into the morning's scripture and looking at different angles. If you're attending in person, just hang out by the Narthex for the discussion to begin around 11:15 am. If you're attending via Zoom, stay in the Zoom. It may take a few minutes to get going, so Zoomers, warm up your coffee or grab a snack. Thanks for your patience.

9 o'clock Spiritual Formation will re-start September 11. For adults, that will be Pastor Ken's series on diverse approaches to spirituality. Please see this week's Rock the Week for information about faith formation for children.

Welcome and Announcements

Joining Our Voices ~ "There is Room for All"

There is room for all in the shadow of God’s wing.

There is room for all, sheltered in God’s love.

And I rejoice and sing:

My refuge and my rock in whom I trust!

There is room for all. There is room for all.

Call to Worship

One: Welcome to the banquet of hope, the open bar of prayer, the “anonymous” circle of acceptance.

All: We come because we are invited. We come to a fiesta of joy or a mercy meal of tenderness, where every seat is a place of honor.

One: Welcome to a party for God’s love-reveal, where all seating is a circle, and the karaoke is just us singing our own stories.

All: We come because we have an invitation, not on fancy paper, simply our names. Our invitation emboldens us for compassionate action!

Singing Our Faith ~ "Servant Song (Won't You Let Me Be Your Servant?)"

Won’t you let me be your servant?

Let me be as Christ to you.

Pray that I might have to the grace

To let you be my servant too.

We are pilgrims on a journey

We are neighbors on the road

We are here to help each other

Walk the mile and bear the load!

I will hold the Christ light for you

In the nighttime of your fear

I will hold my hand out to you,

Speak the peace you long to hear.

At this time, we share moments from our lives: birthdays, anniversaries, works of peace and justice. We celebrate even sorrows and grief as part of a comprehensive view of life.

Celebration Song ~ "Circle of Friends," chorus only

Laugh (echo) Cry (echo) Live (echo), Die (echo)

Hello! (echo) Goodbye! (echo)

And God makes us a circle of friends.

Invitation to Give

We are invited to offer our resources, our time, our abilities, our compassion, on days when our lives are full and days when our lives feel empty. We are invited to offer what we have and accept what we need. Our practice of passing the plate, of giving online, of giving of ourselves - all these are heard as a profound “yes” to the invitation of God.

Word About Life -

Luke 22: 24-27

A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. But he said to them, ‘The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

Words for Mission

One: Friends, may you be blessed when you sit at fine tables of welcome and when you spread the picnic blanket of peace.

All: May we all be blessed in giving and receiving. May we go forth into the week, not repaid for our action but our hearts repaired.

One: These are the times.

All: We are the people.

One: All of Creation is blessed.

All: May we love all and serve all.

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ "Go, Make a Difference"

Go make a diff’rence.

We can make a diff’rence. Go make a diff’rence in the world.

Go make a diff’rence.

We can make a diff’rence. Go make a difff’rence in the world.

We are the salt of the earth, called to let the people see the love of God for you and me.

We are the light of the world, not to be hidden but be seen.

Go make a diff’rence in the world.

We are the hands of Christ, reaching out to those in need, the face of God for all to see.

We are the spirit of hope; we are the voice of peace.

Go make a diff’rence in the world.
