A Message From Ms. Thames
Dear Prairie View Families,

As we transition to distance learning, our teachers are focused on maintaining the high-quality learning experiences that we provide every day. To help you prepare, here are some FAQs that explain how elementary learning will move to distance learning.

What does the school day look like?
The school day will follow the same schedule and routine as what your child experienced during their time at school for the in-person/hybrid days (9:45-4:05).

How much synchronous (real-time, online) learning will be provided?
Synchronous learning will be delivered through daily lesson launches for each subject. This will occur at the beginning of each subject area. This time will also be used to engage as a full class and answer any questions students may have. Additionally, small group instruction and conferring will occur synchronously. Your child’s teacher will provide a daily schedule for this synchronous learning.

Where will students find links and assignments?
Students in hybrid learning will be familiar with accessing curriculum materials through Schoology or Seesaw. Classroom teachers have been working closely with students in Kindergarten and 1st grade to ensure they too know how to access links and assignments.

What materials should students have at home?
Students should have the following materials (and should bring them home from school) to support learning.
  • ipad and headphones
  • Pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, glue
  • Notebooks/folders
  • Collaborative Literacy Reader’s Journal, Writing Notebooks, Handwriting book
  • Math workbook
  • PE, Music, Art supply kits

*If you are in need of additional school supplies, please contact our school social worker, Carolyn Brown (952)975-8844.

Will students continue to see specialists (phy. ed., music, art, world language)?
Yes, students access the specialist learning through the specialist Schoology course. This is linked to their homeroom course. Students will meet with their specialist teacher daily at their classes assigned time, the meeting time will be found on the daily schedule.

Where can I find other help in our community?
Coping with the pandemic puts stress on families in many ways. Eden Prairie Schools can connect you to other supports in our community. Use our “I Need” form to submit a request.

How do you promote positive student behavior during distance learning?
Our goal is to promote positive behavior interventions and support in a virtual environment. One way we will do this is through direct instruction on expectations during distance learning. Students, along with their classroom teacher will discuss what appropriate behavior looks like in a distance learning model through the use of our PBIS Distance Learning Matrix. I have provided the matrices below for you to also share them with your child(ren) in an effort to build a bridge between home and school.

What are some best practices for distance learning?
Structure & routines
Building structure is important for all of us as we navigate more time at home together. Review this resource for ideas on creating structure at home and building independence.

Mindfulness
Many Eden Prairie Schools students practice mindfulness each day in their classrooms. Mindfulness encourages students and families to take breaks and calm their minds at different points throughout the day. These mindful breaks bring more focus to upcoming tasks and allow us time to slow down. Mindful Schools offers a number of free classes and lessons (sign up required).

COVID - 19 Reporting During Distance Learning
As we move into distance learning, we will still be monitoring our COVID-19 cases to ensure a safe return in January. If your child or anyone in your household tests positive for COVID-19 during distance learning, please report it to Brett Lobben, Prairie View’s COVID Coordinator, at 952-975-8884 or [email protected].
