Written Confined Space Entry & Rescue Procedures | |
Hygieneering has recently been engaged by several clients to develop confined space entry and rescue procedures for their confined spaces identified throughout their facilities. These written confined space entry and rescue procedures specifically identify the hazards of the space, methods to ensure the hazards are eliminated, methods to test and monitor the atmosphere within the space, criteria and conditions for evacuating the space during entry, and methods for rescues and emergency situations.
Working in confined spaces can present multiple hazards that can lead to serious injury or death. Common hazards in confined spaces can be lack of oxygen, toxic atmospheres, fire and explosion, engulfment, fall hazards, extreme temperatures, etc. Having written confined entry procedures assists in clearly explaining how to eliminate/control hazards of the confined space so workers can safely enter the confined space to perform their tasks. Incorporating rescue procedures assists in ensuring prompt response in the event of an emergency.
