Since opening in March 2024, Pendolino has quickly become a go-to neighborhood Italian restaurant, elegant enough for date night but casual enough to “pop into anytime and have a casual meal,” in the words of Proprietor-Chef Kevin Maxey.
Maxey – whose 30 years of culinary experience ranges from Ford Fry’s Superica (Atlanta & beyond) to Grammercy Tavern (NYC) – says Pendolino “celebrates the Italian way of food and beverage, not specifically tied to any one region.” His upscale-meets-cozy Italian promises food “from the mountains of the north (Italy) to tomato-based dishes from the south, familiar New Jersey Italian and more.”
Though a large portion of the menu is static, it morphs 5-6 times throughout the year, for the four classic seasons, with finesses for late winter/early spring and late summer/early fall. For instance, he says, “we have a Burrata dish year round, with tomatoes in the summer when they are in season but in colder months it is served with roasted pears.”
Sit at the bar near the wood-burning oven or choose an oversized booth in the sophisticated-international-clean main room. Reserve the private dining space or, weather permitting, the sunny patio. The private flex space strikes a terrific balance of quieter separateness, but with the light, views and ambiance of the chic restaurant, accommodating 12 to 30 people seated or more for standing, grazing and chatting with passed trays and beverages.
Pendolino is located in Chastain Market Retail Center on Roswell Road at the intersection of Windsor Parkway just north of West Wieuca Road, adjacent to Chastain Park, near where Buckhead and Sandy Springs converge and not far from Brookhaven to the east.
Maxey and Pendolino first connected with Hyperion for SBA (U.S. Small Business Administration) lending – a flexible financing option that’s right for many small businesses. “I’ve been thrilled with the experience and service at Hyperion,” Maxey says. “Whether I call or go in, I always get someone who is super friendly and helpful…someone I know and have spoken with before and who knows me. And there is front-row parking and never a line.”
Drop in, make a reservation or book an event at Pendolino. And Hyperion Banker Amy Ellis suggests some of her Pendolino favorites: The simple-but-fab Caesar salad, crispy + delish Brussel Sprouts, veal meatballs + fresh pasta, tiramisu and/or the three-layer spumoni dessert. And, yes, the wines (Italian & otherwise), cocktails (incl inspired mocktails) and digestifs & other dessert beverages are all as thoughtful as you’d expect. Buon appetito!
