Hyperion Stud Honored with the Ellen Scripps Davis Memorial Breeders’ Cup

Lexington, KY – January 27, 2026 – Hyperion Stud was honored at the 2026 US Equestrian Annual Meeting as the recipient of the Ellen Scripps Davis Memorial Breeders’ Cup. Established in 1998, this award celebrates breeders whose programs exemplify thoughtful, high-quality breeding and whose horses succeed at the highest levels of sport – recognizing excellence, consistency, and lasting impact in sport horse breeding. These are the core values of Hyperion Stud, and founder Vicky Castegren has made a lifelong commitment to the development of elite equine athletes.

“Receiving the Ellen Scripps Davis Memorial Breeders’ Cup is an incredible honor and deeply meaningful to me,” says Castegren. “Breeding is about patience, vision, and believing in the long game, often long before the results are visible. To be recognized alongside the legacy of Ellen Scripps Davis, who embodied those values so completely, is truly humbling. I’m grateful to the horses, the people, and the breeders before me who have shaped this journey, and I hope Hyperion Stud can continue to inspire others to see breeding as the foundation of our sport’s future.”

Under Castegren’s leadership, Hyperion Stud has produced horses competing at the highest levels of international sport, including World Championships, Nations Cups, World Cup qualifiers, and the Olympic Games. From show jumping and eventing to hunters and equitation, the horses produced by Hyperion Stud have conistently earned top honors nationally and internationally.

The breeding program has also earned significant accolades, producing Champion and Premium foals, States Premium and Elite mares, and approved stallions. Notably, Castegren became the first U.S. breeder to have a stallion approved by the Zangersheide Studbook in Belgium with Carrasca Z, and in 2019, her stallion Urthago (v. Uriko/Casall/My Lord Carthago) was approved by the Holsteiner Verband in Germany, placing her among the very few American breeders to achieve this distinction in the studbook’s history.

Over the past 18 years, Castegren has grown Hyperion Stud into a leading U.S. breeding operation with an expanding global presence, including a new dressage breeding program in Sweden. Her work continues to shape the future of equestrian sport, inspiring the next generation of breeders to invest in the foundation of excellence that begins long before a horse enters the show ring.
