CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Week of October 11, 2026
| | |
There are no closures scheduled the week of October 11. All work will take place in protected work zones behind concrete barriers, also known as k-rail. At times, this work may be loud or cause dust and vibration. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time to reach your destination or use alternate routes if possible.
Construction work will generally take place Monday through Friday during daytime hours (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and Sunday through Thursday during nighttime hours (8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.).

Work is underway at both ends of the future Cedar Avenue bridge over the railroad. In the coming weeks, crews will continue installing reinforcing steel, placing concrete, and constructing the walls that will support the bridge and surrounding roadway. As construction progresses, crews will prepare to install large beams called bridge girders that will support the bridge deck. This work will require temporary road closures, including temporary closures of the eastbound (EB) I-10 on- and off-ramps at Cedar Avenue. The westbound I-10 on- and off-ramps at Cedar Avenue will remain open. More information about upcoming closures will be provided in future project communications.
During this phase of construction, residents and commuters may notice construction equipment, additional construction trucks traveling through the area, and construction noise near the work zone. Work schedules may change based on field conditions.

All construction is dynamic and the schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change. Visit the Google map (project Google map) for the most up-to-date closures scheduled and available detour routes.

| | CEDAR AVENUE TRAVEL DELAYS DURING PEAK HOURS | | |
As bridge work continues, traffic on the south side of the project remains shifted to the west side of Cedar Avenue. Drivers traveling north from Slover Avenue and exiting EB I-10 may experience delays, especially during peak commute hours.
The project team continues to evaluate signal timing to help traffic move through the area while prioritizing public safety. Traffic exiting I-10 is given priority to prevent vehicles from backing up onto the freeway. This may mean longer travel times for drivers traveling north on Cedar Avenue. Please plan ahead and allow extra time.
As construction progresses, there will be more opportunities to adjust traffic lanes and improve traffic flow. Crews expect to install the girders for the first half of the bridge before Thanksgiving, marking a major milestone toward completing the first half of the bridge next year.

| | | The I-10/Cedar Avenue Interchange Project is designed to relieve congestion, enhance safety, and improve traffic operations along Cedar Avenue between Bloomington Avenue and Orange Street. The project will widen the I-10 overcrossing and replace the railroad bridge, provide for roadway improvements along Cedar Avenue, and add capacity to the on- and off-ramps from Cedar Avenue to the I-10. During construction activities may include removing and rebuilding of existing and new structures, digging up roads for utility work, pavement and restriping work, installation of new traffic signals, traffic shifts, intermittent lane closures, and ramp closures. Workers and heavy equipment will be present throughout the project corridor and we ask that you allow for extra time to reach your destination as you may experience delays. | | |
