CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES - Week of December 28
Happy Holidays. There will be no work on Friday, January 1
Construction will occur Monday through Friday during daytime (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and nighttime (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) hours, except as noted. All construction is dynamic and the schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change. Please check the Google Map (link above) for the most updated closure and detour information.
Eighteen bridges throughout the corridor will either be replaced, widened, or improved to accommodate the widening of the freeway. Work on the bridges may be loud and you may feel vibration at times during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Below is an overview of the current bridge work:

  • Monte Vista Avenue: Crews continue to relocate underground utilities at Monte Vista Avenue and are preparing to build a new wider section of the eastbound (EB) side of the freeway. Work on Monte Vista Avenue began in Spring 2020 and will last for approximately three years. Daytime and nighttime activity includes shoring (building temporary support structures), drilling, and excavating the street.

  • Central Avenue: In November 2020, a portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Central Avenue was removed and crews are working to prepare the existing bridge to be widened. Work began in Fall 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months.

  • Benson Avenue: A portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Benson Avenue was removed in early December 2020. Crews will continue to prepare the existing bridge to be widened. Work will continue for approximately two years.

  • Mountain Avenue: In November 2020, crews removed a portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Mountain Avenue. Crews are working to prepare the existing bridge for widening. Work began in Fall 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months.

  • Euclid Avenue: Crews demolished the east side of the bridge and are working on rebuilding the northbound (NB) lanes. Work on Euclid Avenue began in mid-May 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months.

  • Sultana Avenue: Crews continue to build the new Sultana Avenue bridge over I-10. The new bridge is anticipated to open in February 2021. Daytime and nighttime activity includes backfilling and removing the shoring (temporary support structures).

  • Grove Avenue: A portion of the EB and westbound (WB) I-10 shoulder over Grove Avenue was removed in mid-December. Crews will continue to prepare the existing bridge for widening. Daytime and nighttime activity includes shoring (building temporary support structures). Work is expected to be complete in approximately 9 months.

  • 4th Street: Crews continue to relocate underground utilities at 4th Street and are preparing to build a new wider section of the EB side of the freeway. 4th Street between El Dorado Avenue and Vineyard Avenue is reduced to one lane and there may be delays during morning and evening hours. Work on 4th Street began in Spring 2020 and will last for approximately two years. Daytime and nighttime activity includes shoring (building temporary support structures).

  • Vineyard Avenue: Vineyard Avenue over I-10 will be widened in two phases. The first phase includes moving NB traffic lanes to the center median to allow a portion of the east side of the bridge to be demolished and rebuilt into the new wider configuration. This work is expected to begin in January 2021. Bridge widening will last approximately 18 months.
Monte Vista Avenue EB on-ramp closed in August 2020 and will be closed for approximately two years. Detour routes include Arrow Highway and Palo Verde Street to Central Avenue.

Phase 1 of SB Express Lanes is located in the southwestern portion of San Bernardino County east of Los Angeles County. The project will provide choices on the I-10 freeway between the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line and I-15. The project includes two express lanes in each direction to offer trip reliability and ease congestion. In addition, lanes to assist drivers getting on and off the freeway (auxiliary lanes) will be constructed in selected locations. West of Haven Avenue, a single new lane will be constructed and combined with the existing HOV lane to provide two express lanes in each direction. The HOV lane will still be available to motorists, but will increase from 2+ to 3+. East of Haven Avenue, two express lanes will be constructed.
