CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
Week of June 7
Construction will occur Monday through Friday during daytime (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and nighttime (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) hours, except as noted. All construction is dynamic and the schedule is subject to change. Please check the Google Map for the most updated closure and detour information.
Eighteen bridges throughout the corridor will either be replaced, widened, or improved to accommodate the widening of the freeway. Work on the bridges may be loud and you may feel vibration at times during both daytime and nighttime hours.

Below is an overview of the current bridge work:

  • Monte Vista Avenue: Crews continue to relocate underground utilities at Monte Vista Avenue and are building a new wider section of the eastbound (EB) side of the freeway. Work on Monte Vista Avenue began in spring 2020 and will last for approximately three years. Monte Vista Avenue under I-10 is reduced to one lane in each direction during daytime hours and will be intermittently closed during nighttime hours. Detour routes will be posted. Daytime and nighttime activities include forming and placing rebar on the bridge deck and relocating utilities.

  • Central Avenue: In November 2020, a portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Central Avenue was removed and work will last for approximately 18 months. Daytime and nighttime activity includes building the new portion of the bridge.

  • Benson Avenue: A portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Benson Avenue was removed in early-December 2020. Bridge widening work will continue for approximately two years. Benson Avenue under I-10 will be closed weekdays during nighttime hours while crews install falsework (temporary bridge frames) and k-rail.

  • Mountain Avenue: In November 2020, crews removed a portion of the EB I-10 shoulder over Mountain Avenue. Work began in fall 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months. Daytime and nighttime activities include backfilling support structures at the ends of the bridge and modifying bridge support structures.

  • San Antonio Avenue: Crews are continuing to relocate utilities on San Antonio Avenue and preparing the bridge for demolition, anticipated in late 2021. Work is occurring during daytime and nighttime hours. San Antonio Avenue may be intermittently closed during nighttime hours with flaggers directing traffic.

  • Euclid Avenue: Crews demolished the east side of the bridge and are working on rebuilding the NB lanes. Work on Euclid Avenue began in mid-May 2020 and will last for approximately 18 months. Daytime and nighttime activities include bridge work and installing utilities.

  • Sultana Avenue: Crews continue to build the new Sultana Avenue bridge over I-10. The new bridge is anticipated to open in June 2021. Daytime and nighttime activity includes installing utilities.

  • Campus Avenue: This summer, Campus Avenue over I-10 will be closed to prepare for demolition. Once the original bridge is demolished, crews will rebuild the bridge to accommodate the additional lanes on the I-10. To prepare for this work, utility relocation is occurring between Richland Street and 6th Street during daytime and nighttime hours.

  • 6th Street: As early as mid-June 2021, 6th Street over I-10 will be closed to all vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic to allow crews to prepare for demolition. Once the original bridge is demolished, crews will rebuild the bridge to accommodate the additional lanes on the I-10. Utility relocation is occurring between Campus Avenue and Holmes Court during daytime and nighttime hours.

  • Grove Avenue: A portion of the EB and WB I-10 shoulder over Grove Avenue was removed in December 2020. Work is expected to be complete in fall 2021. Grove Avenue under I-10 will be intermittently closed to through traffic and detour routes will be posted.

  • 4th Street: Crews continue to relocate underground utilities at 4th Street and are building a new wider section of the EB side of the freeway. Work on 4th Street began in spring 2020 and will last for approximately two years. 4th Street between El Dorado Avenue and Vineyard Avenue is reduced to one lane during daytime hours. 4th Street under I-10 will be intermittently closed during nighttime hours. Detour routes will be posted. Daytime and nighttime activities include utility installation and relocation.

  • Vineyard Avenue: The east side of Vineyard Avenue over I-10 was partially demolished in early-March. Construction will last approximately 18 months. Vineyard Avenue over I-10 may have reduced lanes during daytime hours and may be intermittently closed during nighttime hours. Continuing daytime and nighttime activities include installing beams into the ground and placing forms and rebar on the lower portion of the bridge supports.
Freeway lane closures are necessary for crews to remove trees, perform maintenance, and demolish and rebuild retaining walls, sound walls, and bridges.

Phase 1 of SB Express Lanes is located in the southwestern portion of San Bernardino County east of Los Angeles County. The project will provide choices on the I-10 freeway between the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line and I-15. The project includes two express lanes in each direction to offer trip reliability and ease congestion. In addition, lanes to assist drivers getting on and off the freeway (auxiliary lanes) will be constructed in selected locations. West of Haven Avenue, a single new lane will be constructed and combined with the existing HOV lane to provide two express lanes in each direction. The HOV lane will still be available to motorists, but will increase from 2+ to 3+. East of Haven Avenue, two express lanes will be constructed.
