I-10 Widening and Reconstruction Project

Monthly Public Outreach and Communication Report

State Project H.004100

Project Status

Crews are currently constructing the permanent abutment, wing and retaining walls, which will support the permanent bridge structure, on the west side of City Park Lake, north of I-10. Excavation work continues in preparation for the construction of the upcoming retaining walls along I-10 near E. Lakeshore Dr.

Additionally, work continues on the cofferdam cells that will support the City Park Lake bridge foundations. In the coming weeks, pile driving will begin in the cofferdam cells, which will support the footing of the bridge expansion.

Drainage operations are ongoing along E. Harrison St. from Virginia St. to Arkansas St. Crews are installing storm drain pipes and catch basins. This will continue along the project corridor.

While work is ongoing, residents and motorists throughout the corridor can expect to see an increase in truck traffic, as well as an increase in noise during the day. Upcoming major construction activities will be performed during daytime hours between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and continues to be monitored by various noise and vibration monitors throughout the corridor.

The temporary trestle bridge spans across City Park Lake from Dalrymple Dr. to E. Lakeshore Dr.

Trestle Bridge Completion:

  • The temporary trestle bridge over City Park Lake was completed on schedule on March 5, 2024
  • Nearly 3,000 linear feet of 36” diameter steel pipe pile was driven
  • 2.05 million lbs. of structural steel was used for the trestle bridge
  • Over 29,000 sq. ft. of trestle decking was laid

On November 27, 2023, E. Lakeshore Dr. was closed where it passes beneath I-10 as depicted in red on the accompanying diagram. This local street will remain closed for approximately three years while crews work on the permanent widening of I-10 over City Park Lake. Northbound and southbound motorists on E. Lakeshore Dr. are advised to use Dalrymple Dr. for the duration of this closure.

This portion of E. Lakeshore Dr. will not be accessible to motorists, pedestrians or bicyclists as this is an active construction site.
