The I-10 Widening and Reconstruction Project in Baton Rouge continues to demonstrate steady progress, with a key milestone recently achieved: the successful installation of girders on the new City Park Lake Bridge. The 26 tub girders were completed June 7. Crews are now in the process of installing pre-cast deck panels that are an integral part of forming the driving surface of the new bridge. These panels, which are manufactured off-site, will serve as the foundation for the bridge deck, with concrete pouring anticipated to being in late July/ early August.
In addition, crews are preparing for pavement work on a section of the new westbound lane and shoulder, extending from I-10 near Christian Street to the new City Park Lake Bridge. Preparations are also underway for paving a portion of the new Dalrymple Dr. ramp located on the west side of City Park Lake. Construction teams are also continuing work on completing the concrete pour for the roadway barrier between Elissalde Street and Ebony Avenue.
On Wednesday, June 4, May St. closed to bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicular traffic as part of infrastructure upgrades to the University Lakes Restoration Project, which is a collaborative effort between LSU and the City of Baton Rouge. May St. is anticipated to reopen Fall 2026. The E. Lakeshore Dr. closure under I-10 remains in effect for the duration of this phase of work while crews widen I-10 over City Park Lake. This portion of E. Lakeshore Dr. will not be accessible to motorists, pedestrians or bicyclists as this is an active construction site.
These activities remain ongoing from Monday to Saturday during daytime hours. Residents and motorists should anticipate increased truck traffic and daytime noise during this period.
