I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge Project Alert

and Scheduled Lane Closures for Dec. 8-15

Motorists should be alert to a new traffic pattern on I-64 west (toward Virginia Beach) after the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass beginning as early as Sunday, Dec. 10.

Beginning as early as Sunday, Dec. 10, at 7 a.m., motorists traveling on I-64 west (toward Virginia Beach) will notice a shift in traffic between the foot of the High Rise Bridge and Battlefield Boulevard (exits 291/290). In this new lane configuration, original CD/outside exit lanes will be re-established. Motorists traveling to I-464 or Battlefield Boulevard will need to enter the CD/outside exit lane before the I-464 interchange.

Motorists wishing to access to the following exits must enter the outside exit lane past the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass:

• Route 168 South/Chesapeake Expressway (exit 291B)
• I-464 (exit 291A)
• Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290)

Through traffic should continue on I-64 west by utilizing the two left lanes.

Motorists should pay attention to new directional signage within the area.

To facilitate this traffic shift and other construction activities within the corridor, crews will utilize a series of lane and ramp closures and can be found on the traffic alerts section of the website and below. Scheduled closures and traffic shifts are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors. Motorists should follow detour signage along the route.

Daytime lane closure on I-64 east on the following dates:

• Multiple lane closure between Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) and I-464 (exit 291) Dec. 9 from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Single lane closure between High Rise Bridge to the Shell Road overpass (approximate mile marker 295) Dec. 14-15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Multiple lane closure between Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) and the High Rise Bridge Dec.16 from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Daytime lane closure on I-64 west on the following dates:

• Single lane closure between Shell Road overpass (approximate mile marker 295) to the High Rise Bridge Dec.13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Single lane closure between Rotunda Drive (approximate mile marker 299) to S. Military Highway (exit 297) Dec.14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Single lane closure between Bowers Hill (exit 299) and S. Military Highway (exit 297) Dec.14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Single lane closure between High Rise Bridge to Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292) Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Daytime closure and detour of the I-64 west off-ramp to George Washington Highway north (exit 296A) on Dec. 9 from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Motorists should follow the detour below:

• Continue on George Washington Highway south
• Turn right onto Margaret Booker Dr.
• Turn left onto Galberry Rd.
• Turn right onto George Washington Highway north
• Turn left onto Military Highway
• Access the ramp to I-64 east from Military Highway

Daytime closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 east to George Washington Highway north (exit 296A) Dec. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Overnight single and multi-lane closures on I-64 on the following dates:

• Single lane closure I-64 west between the High Rise Bridge and Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) Dec.10 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Single lane closure I-64 east and west between Bowers Hill (exit 299) and Shell Road (approximate mile marker 295) Dec. 10-17 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Multiple lane closures on I-64 east Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) and I-464 (exit 291) Dec.12 and Dec. 14 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Multiple lane closures I-64 east between Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) and the High Rise Bridge Dec.13 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Single lane closure on I-64 east between the High Rise Bridge and I-464 (exit 291) Dec.14-15 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Overnight closure and detour of South Military Highway on-ramp to I-64 east Dec.11 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should follow the detour below:

• Continue on Military Highway
• Then turn right onto George Washington Highway south
• Traffic will be directed to the Route 17 south on-ramp to I-64 west

Overnight closure and detour of the on-ramp from George Washington Highway south to I-64 west Dec. 12 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
