I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge Project

Upcoming Scheduled Lane and Ramp Closures

March 29 to April 5

Motorists can anticipate the following scheduled lane and ramp closures below as contractor crews continue to complete work along the corridor. All construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Before traveling, check roadway conditions by using VDOT’s free mobile app, which offers information about road conditions, traffic, incidents, construction, and congestion, as well as access to traffic cameras, weather, and more. Information is also available at 511Virginia.org or by calling 511 while in Virginia.

Motorists can anticipate the following overnight alternating, single-lane closures:


  • I-64 in both directions from Bowers Hill to the Shell Road overpass (approximate mile marker 295) April 2-7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.


  • I-64 in both directions from Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) to the High Rise Bridge April 2-7 from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should also anticipate the following scheduled overnight closures and detours:


Overnight closure and detour of Yadkin Road at the I-64 overpass March 30 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

Through traffic should follow the detour below. Local traffic will be able to access businesses on Yadkin Road from George Washington Highway.

Overnight closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 west to Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292A) April 2-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 


Motorists traveling on I-64 west (toward Virginia Beach) should use the detour listed below:

  • Exit 291A to I-464 north
  • Exit 1 to I-64 east
  • Exit 291B to Route 168 south
  • Right exit to Great Bridge Boulevard
64 west to Great Bridge Boulevard

Overnight closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 west to Route 168/Chesapeake Expressway (exit 291) April 2-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

Motorists should use the cloverleaf detour below.


Operations will be coordinated to avoid concurrent ramp closures along the proposed detour routes.

64 west to 168 south

Overnight closure and detour of the on-ramp from Route 168 north/Chesapeake Expressway to I-64 west (exit 15A) April 2-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should use the detour listed below.

  • Take the on-ramp to I-464 north (exit 1)
  • Take the I-464/I-64 cloverleaf ramps to I-64 west


Operations will be coordinated to avoid concurrent ramp closures along the proposed detour routes.

168 north to 64 west (15A)

Overnight closure and detour of the ramp from I-64 west to I-464 north (exit 291A) April 2-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on I-64 west
  • Use exit 290 to the Battlefield Boulevard loops to access I-64 east
  • Take exit 291A to I-464 north


Operations will be coordinated to avoid concurrent ramp closures along the proposed detour routes.

64 west to 464 north detour

Overnight closure and detour of the ramp from I-464 south to I-64 west (exit 1A) April 2-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.



Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on I-464 south and onto Route 168 south
  • Take the Route 168/Battlefield Boulevard loops to Route 168 north
  • Take exit 15A to I-64 west


Operations will be coordinated to avoid concurrent ramp closures along the proposed detour routes.

464 south to 64 west

Overnight closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 east to George Washington Highway north (exit 296A) April 4-6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

Motorists should follow the signed detour, using exit 297 to Military Highway and turn onto George Washington Highway.
