Overnight Detour on Military Highway at the I-64 Overpass, Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 11-12
Full Overnight Closure of the Great Bridge Boulevard Overpass and Exit 292, Nov. 9-11
Overnight Detour on Military Highway at the I-64 Overpass, Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 11-12
Military Highway (both northbound and southbound) between the I-64 on- and off-ramps will be closed to all traffic overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning on Sunday, Nov. 7 and Thursday, Nov. 11, with Monday, Nov. 8, and Friday, Nov. 12 as contingency dates.

This detour will allows crews to safely complete milling and paving operations in this area of Military Highway in order to re-open two lanes of traffic in each direction.

Motorists should follow the detours below. Detour information will also be designated with signage along the roadway.

All construction schedules are pending, due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Changes to the schedule will be updated on the project website traffic alerts page.

This closure will allow construction crews to safely continue work on the widening of the I-64 overpass as part of the I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge Project.
Traveling South on Military Highway

  • Right onto the I-64 ramp toward Suffolk
  • Take left exit 299B to I-664 toward Bowers Hill | Suffolk | Newport News
  • Take exit 13B to Military Highway
  • Turn right at the intersection of Military Highway/Joliff Road to continue on W. Military Highway
  • Turn right onto the I-64 east / I-264 ramp (in front of Frank’s Truck Stop)
  • Keep right to I-64 west toward Virginia Beach, Exit 15B
  • Take exit 297 to Military Highway

End Detour
Traveling North on Military Highway

  • Right to on-ramp to I-64 west towards Virginia Beach
  • Take exit 296 to George Washington Highway
  • Turn left on George Washington Highway
  • Take the on-ramp to I-64 east towards Suffolk
  • Take exit 297 to Military Highway

Full Overnight Closure of the Great Bridge Boulevard Overpass and the Off-Ramp (Exit 292), Nov. 9-11
Great Bridge Boulevard between Tennyson Street and the I-64 off-ramp, as well as, Exit 292 to Great Bridge Boulevard will be closed to all traffic on Nov. 9-10, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. November 11 will be used as a contingency date. Additionally, motorists can expect flagging operations in the same area on Nov. 8 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

GREAT BRIDGE BOULEVARD DETOUR:

Traveling South on Great Bridge Boulevard

  • Right on Booker Street
  • Left on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • Left on Dominion Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Boulevard

Traveling North on Great Bridge Boulevard

  • Left on Dominion Boulevard
  • Right on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Boulevard
EXIT 292 DETOUR

Motorists traveling on I-64 west towards Virginia Beach should follow detour signs utilizing:

  • Exit 291A to I-464 north
  • Exit 1 to I-64 east
  • Exit 291B to Route 168 south
  • Right exit to Great Bridge Boulevard
