Overnight Directional Closures Continue on I-64 Near the Great Bridge Boulevard Overpass and on Great Bridge Boulevard in Chesapeake
Nightly detours in place for continued construction of the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass
Crews have successfully completed the installation of beams across westbound I-64 (see photos below) and will begin construction over eastbound lanes this weekend. Motorists can expect nightly detours of eastbound I-64 near the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass at Exit 291A beginning as early as Saturday night, July 18, through early Friday morning, July 24.
Additionally, the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass over I-64 will be closed during these times.
A full closure and detour on eastbound I-64 will be in place overnight Saturday, July 18, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m, with single lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. through 8 a.m on Sunday, July 19. The closure and detour will continue Sunday night, July 19 through as late as Friday morning, July 24, from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. with single lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. and continuing until 5 a.m the following morning.
The full directional closure on Great Bridge Boulevard near the overpass will be in place each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on these same dates.
These closures will allow crews to erect beams for the new Great Bridge Boulevard overpass over I-64.
This construction work and detours which are weather- and schedule-dependent will be coordinated with the
full directional closures on I-264 in Virginia Beach
.
VDOT will provide regular status updates during the course of the work via social media as well as digital signage throughout the corridor.
