Travel Alerts, Week of June 21 - 27
  • Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions between South Military Highway (exit 297) and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289):
  • Mondays - Thursdays, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Fridays, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Saturdays, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Sundays, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Full closure of the on-ramp to I-64 east (exit 14B) from northbound George Washington Highway on June 22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should follow detour signs utilizing George Washington Highway and Military Highway.

  • Full closure of I-64 east exit 296B to George Washington Highway on June 22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should follow detour signs utilizing Exit 297 and Military Highway.

  • Full closure of the on-ramp to I-64 west (exit 14A) from southbound George Washington Highway on June 23 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should follow detour signs to use the northbound George Washington Highway on-ramp to I-64.

  • Full closure of exit 292A Great Bridge Boulevard on June 25-26 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should follow detour signage utilizing Exit 291B.

  • Daytime flagging operations at Yadkin Road and the I-64 overpass on June 22-23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Overnight Detour at the Great Bridge Boulevard Overpass, June 25-26

Great Bridge Boulevard between Tennyson Street and the I-64 off-ramp will be closed to all traffic on Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists should follow the detour below. Detour information will also be designated with signage along the roadway.

DETOUR:

Traveling South on Great Bridge Boulevard

  • Right on Booker Street
  • Left on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • Left on Dominion Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Boulevard

Traveling North on Great Bridge Boulevard

  • Left on Dominion Boulevard
  • Right on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Blvd
On-going Traffic Impacts | Lane Closures

  • Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions between South Military Highway (exit 281) and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289):

  • Fridays, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • With construction progressing, residents and businesses can expect additional noise due to pile driving and other construction activities in the close vicinity of the various construction sites. Excessive loud noise activities will be ceased between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. the following morning. To see the construction schedule and map, click here.

Lane Reduction at Military Highway Under the I-64 Overpass

  • Military Highway is reduced to one lane in each direction where it passes under I-64 in Chesapeake. This allows crews to widen I-64 over Military Highway.

Overnight Detour on Southbound Military Highway

  • Southbound Military Highway between the I-64 on- and off-ramps will be closed to all traffic nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning through Saturday morning, June 30. Closures will occur nightly at 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and re-open at 5 a.m. the following morning.
Detour on Shell Road at the I-64 Overpass,  June 15 - Aug 24

  • Shell Road is closed all vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the I-64 overpass through Monday evening, Aug 24.
Restricted Access at Libertyville Road and Bainbridge Blvd Intersection 

  • There is currently no access to Bainbridge Boulevard from Libertyville Road. Additionally, turns from Bainbridge Boulevard onto Libertyville Road are prohibited. Motorists traveling on Bainbridge Boulevard will be able to continue straight through the Libertyville Road intersection.
