I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge Expansion Project
Lane Closures, April 18-24
  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions on I-64 between I-664 north/Route 13/Route 58 (exit 299) and I-464 (exit 291), April 18-24, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Double-lane closure on I-64 east, between Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292) and the foot of the High Rise Bridge, Tuesday, April 19, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Double-lane closure on I-64 east, between Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289) and I-464 (exit 291), April 19-22. from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect a traffic shift on I-64 west between Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292) and I-464 (exit 291), beginning as early as Friday, April 22, at 5 a.m. Traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes on to new pavement to allow for continued work in the median.
Exit to Great Bridge Boulevard (Exit 292) from I-64 west closed, Wednesday, April 20, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists traveling on I-64 west towards Virginia Beach should follow detour signs utilizing:

  • Exit 291A to I-464 north
  • Exit 1 to I-64 east
  • Exit 291B to Route 168 south
  • Right exit to Great Bridge Boulevard

End detour on Great Bridge Boulevard
George Washington Highway (Route 17) north on-ramp to I-64 west closed, Tuesday, April 19 to April 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During this nightly closure, motorists should utilize the cloverleaf detour.
