Lane Closures

Dec. 16-25

Motorists can expect alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the following locations:

• I-64 west from Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) to I-464 (exit 291A) Dec. 18-21
• I-64 east on the High Rise Bridge Dec. 18-20 and Dec. 22
• I-64 east from Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) to I-464 (exit 291A) Dec. 19-22

Motorists can also expect overnight, single-lane closures with brief, intermittent stoppages (up to 20 minutes). Single-lane closures will begin as early as 7 p.m. with full stoppages to occur between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. in the following locations:

• I-64 west between the High Rise Bridge and Great Bridge Boulevard (overpass) Dec. 19
• I-64 east between the High Rise Bridge and Shell Road (approximate mile marker 295) Dec. 20

Continuous, weekend closure of I-64 west ramp to Route 168 south/Chesapeake Expressway (exit 291B) from 9 p.m. on Dec. 16 to 5 a.m. on Dec. 19

Motorists should use the detour listed below.

• Continue on I-64 west
• Take exit 291A to I-464 north
• Take exit 2 to Military Highway
• Take a left on Military Highway
• Take the on-ramp to I-464 south
• Exit to Route 168 south/Chesapeake Expressway

Overnight ramp closure from I-64 west to I-464 north (exit 291A), Dec. 17 from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Motorists should continue on I-64 west to Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290A) and follow the loops to I-64 east and use exit 291A from I-64 east to access I-464 north.

Overnight closure of I-464 south ramp to I-64 west (exit 1A) Dec. 17 from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Motorists should continue on I-464 south to Route 168 south/Chesapeake Expressway and follow the detour signs to I-64 west.

Continuous, weekend closure of the I-64 east ramp to Military Highway (exit 297) beginning at 5 a.m. on Dec. 17 to 5 a.m. on Dec. 19

Motorists should continue on I-64 east toward Suffolk and follow the detour signs back to I-64 west. 

Overnight closure of the I-64 west ramp to Battlefield Boulevard south (exit 290B) Dec. 18 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists traveling on I-64 west towards Virginia Beach should follow detour signs utilizing exit 290A and follow the cloverleaf to access Battlefield Boulevard south.

Traffic shift on I-64 west just past I-464 interchange and Battlefield Boulevard to be in place as early as 5 a.m. on Dec. 19

Motorists should be alert to a new, temporary traffic pattern on I-64 west between I-464 and Battlefield Boulevard beginning as early as 5 a.m. on Dec. 19.

In this temporary configuration, the left inner two lanes will be shifted into the median. Motorists wishing to exit to I-464 (exit 291A) or Route 168/Chesapeake Expressway south (exit 291B) should stay to the right to exit. 

Overnight closure of I-64 west ramp to Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292), Dec. 19-20



Motorists traveling on I-64 west toward Virginia Beach should use the following detour:

• Exit 291A to I-464 north
• Exit 1 to I-64 east
• Exit 291B to Route 168 south
• Right exit to Great Bridge Boulevard

Overnight closure on I-64 east ramp to George Washington Highway north (exit 296A) Dec. 21 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Motorists should follow detour signs using exit 297 to Military Highway and take a right on George Washington Highway.
