Lane Closures

Nov. 17-24

Motorists should be advised of the following scheduled lane and detour impacts as crews facilitate daytime paving and other construction activities. Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors. Concurrent operations will be coordinated to avoid ramp closures along the proposed detour routes


VDOT will suspend most highway work zones and lift lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia for Thanksgiving travel beginning noon, Wednesday, Nov. 22, until noon, Monday, Nov. 27. Read the VDOT statewide holiday travel release here.

Alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the following locations:


  • I-64 west from Great Bridge Boulevard (overpass) to Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) Nov. 18-19
  • I-64 in both directions from Bowers Hill to Shell Road (approximate mile marker 295) Nov. 19-22
  • I-64 east from Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) to the High Rise Bridge Nov. 19-22

Daytime Lane Closures and Detours

Daytime closure of on-ramp from Route 168 north (Chesapeake Expressway) to I-64 west Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Motorists should use the detour listed below.

  • Take the on-ramp to I-464 north (exit 1)
  • Take the I-464/ I-64 cloverleaf ramps to I-64 west
168N to 64 west cloverleaf

Daytime closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 east to George Washington Highway north (exit 296A) Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 


Motorists should follow detour signs using exit 297 to Military Highway and take a right on George Washington Highway.

64 East to 12_GW South

Daytime closure and detour of the I-64 east off-ramp to George Washington Highway south (exit 296B) Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 


Motorists should follow detour signs to Military Highway (exit 297) and turn right on George Washington Highway. 

Daytime closure and detour of the on-ramp from George Washington Highway north to I-64 east Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below:

Daytime closure and detour of the on-ramp from George Washington Highway south to I-64 east Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on George Washington Highway south
  • Turn right onto Margaret Booker Dr.
  • Turn left onto Galberry Rd.
  • Turn left onto George Washington Highway north
  • Turn left onto Military Highway
  • Access the ramp to I-64 east from Military Highway

Daytime single right lane closure on I-64 east between the Shell Road overpass (approximate mile marker 295) and the Yadkin Road overpass (approximate mile marker 297) Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Daytime closure and detour of the on-ramp from George Washington Highway south to I-64 east Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 


Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on George Washington Highway south
  • Turn right onto Margaret Booker Dr.
  • Turn left onto Galberry Rd.
  • Turn left onto George Washington Highway north
  • Take on-ramp to I-64 east (towards Suffolk)

Daytime closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 west to Battlefield Boulevard south (exit 290B) and the collector-distributor (CD) lane Nov.19 from 9 a.m.– 3 p.m.



Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on I-64 west
  • Take Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289B)
  • Follow the cloverleaf to I-64 east
  • Use exit 290B to access Battlefield Boulevard south

64 west to Battlefield SB 290

Motorists should follow the cloverleaf detour below:

Overnight closure and detour of the off-ramp from I-64 west to Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292A) Nov. 20 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 


Motorists traveling on I-64 west (toward Virginia Beach) should use the detour listed below:

  • Exit 291A to I-464 north
  • Exit 1 to I-64 east
  • Exit 291B to Route 168 south
  • Right exit to Great Bridge Boulevard


Overnight closure and detour of the ramp from I-64 east to I-464 south (exit 291B) Nov. 19-21 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 


Motorists should:

  • Take exit 291A to I-464 north
  • Take exit 2 to Military Highway
  • Turn left on Military Highway
  • Take the on-ramp to I-464 south
64 east to 464 South exit 291 B standard

Overnight closure and detour of the I-464 north off-ramp to I-64 east (exit 1B) Nov. 19-21 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

Motorists should follow the detour below:

Motorists should follow the detour below:

  • Continue on I-464 south/Route 168 south
  • Take Exit 13A and follow cloverleaf exits to Route 168 north
  • Take Exit 15A to I-464 west (towards Virginia Beach)
464 south_168S_to 64 west
