Construction crews prepare for upcoming traffic shift on I-64 westbound near the High Rise Bridge
As construction of the new High Rise Bridge advances, motorists can expect a traffic shift on I-64 westbound (towards Virginia Beach) near the base of the High Rise Bridge beginning the first weekend in October
(pending weather or unforeseen circumstances)

Westbound (towards Virginia Beach) traffic on I-64 between the foot of the High Rise Bridge and the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass will be shifted towards the center lanes on to new pavement. This traffic shift will allow crews to work on the construction of the new high rise bridge.
To prepare for this upcoming traffic shift, there will be overnight single lane reductions for westbound traffic on I-64 from the foot of the High Rise Bridge to the Great Bridge Boulevard overpass beginning as early as Monday, September 23 at 7 p.m. Single lane reductions will continue through the following dates:
- September 22-26, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- September 27, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- September 28, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- September 30-October 3, from 7 p.m to 5 a.m.
- October 4, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- October 5, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Motorists should prepare for delays or take alternate routes. As always, motorists are encouraged to slow down and pay careful attention while driving through the construction zone.
