I CAN ONLY IMAGINE Now Showing in the Cinemas
Thank you to those who prayed and forwarded the
Christian Values Checklist
to others for the South Australian State election last Saturday. We are thrilled to report that the Liberal Party, which indicated a much greater support of Christian values than Labor or Greens, has
and will be forming a majority government. We must continue to pray!
Now with Easter approaching there are a number of Christian movie productions being released. One of these is a movie called
I CAN ONLY IMAGINE. It started showing in Australian cinemas on 15 March.
Please watch this gripping Trailer with
I Can Only Imagine is based the true story behind the song that has brought ultimate hope to so many -
the hope of a glorious eternity in the presence of God in heaven
I Can Only Imagine
was first recorded by the Christian band
. Written and composed by its lead singer, Bart Millard, in 1999, the song was inspired by the death of his father. Written on a bus in the middle of the night, Millard considers what it would be like in heaven and to be standing before God.
Amazingly, the song was written in mere minutes. But as the movie shows, those lyrics were forged over a lifetime.
Although he found faith at a young age, life wasn't easy for Bart. Physically and verbally abused by his father, it was his love of music that helped him cope and, eventually, discover God's purpose for his life.
The movie is directed by the Erwin Brothers who also directed October Baby, Moms' Night Out, and Woodlawn. While they expected their latest movie to do well, the ticket sales have greatly exceeded all expectations. In America CinemaScore has given the movie an A+, one of fewer than 80 movies to ever earn such a score!
The song I Can Only Imagine (sometimes shortened to Imagine) has been certified triple platinum. This means sales of over three million digital downloads. I Can Only Imagine is the first, and so far the only, Christian single to reach that mark. Very recently a special rendition of the song with the London Symphony Orchestra was used as a
Tribute for Billy Graham
By going to a local theatre to see a Christian movie production you will be strengthened in your faith. At the same time, if the ticket sales are strong, the screening of the movie is usually extended. This makes it possible for many more to see the movie and find Christ themselves!
Commenting on the song I Can Only Imagine, Bill Muehlenberg of Culture Watch wrote these words back in April 2017 -
"If we are enthralled with certain works of art, or poems, or pieces of music now, how much more in the life to come? If we see so much amazing creativity in a very fallen world at the hands of finite and flawed human beings, what will we find when we go to be with the Lord?
I for one am excited when I think about our eternal home, and what we will be involved in. Of course worshiping God will be our primary occupation, but there will likely be so much more. We can only imagine what such a life will be like!"
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or
according to his power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."
Please spread the word. See you at the movies!
Yours for culture-changing Christian movies,
