I Like My Martini Dry Not My Skin!

Dry skin is common this time of year when humidity is low. It feels tight, uncomfortable and itchy. It feels as if smiling would crack you skin like a fine old masterpiece. (FYI technically called craquelure - I learned this in my Fine Arts Master's Program - yes I am a painter too!)

Dry skin results from water loss in the skin. There are many common causes including weather, using harsh soapy cleansers, and taking long hot showers, all of which deplete your skin of its natural oils. Like washing a greasy pan; hot water and lots of soap will get rid of the grease, and a hot shower will do the same thing to your skin.

You can combat dry skin by keeping a few things in mind.

Shower for only10 minutes at a lower the temperature. This will diminish the loss of your natural oils.
Layer your products for maximum hydration and protection.. When its comes to dressing in the winter it is typically about layering what you wear according to the weather and for maximum warmth. Blood Orange Martini

2 parts Skyy Blood Orange Vodka
1/4 part Cointreau
1/4 part simple syrup
several drops of orange bitters
orange slice for garnish

Preparation:

Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is frosted and beaded with sweat.
Strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish with an orange slice
