UPDATE: WNBA Star Brittney Griner's Appeal Denied; Moving to Penal Colony
By Dorothy J. Gentry
Sports Editor
WNBA Star Brittney Griner has been in a Russian prison for 250 days - over 8 months.
Unfortunately, she will be there a lot longer.
On Tuesday a Russian court denied Griner’s appeal and the Houston, Texas native is expected to be moved to a penal colony, where she’ll serve a nine-year prison sentence on drug charges.
Griner took part in the Moscow Regional Court hearing today via videoconference. According to the court ruling, the time Griner will have to serve in prison will be recalculated with her time in pretrial detention taken into account, meaning she will serve about eight years in prison.

Jadakiss, his father, and son are launching a coffee brand that’s 40 years in the making. Coffee is what keeps people going, and it’s going well for many Black-owned coffee connoisseurs. Founded by two men, BLK & Bold is the first Black-owned, nationally distributed coffee brand that has secured a partnership with the NBA and major retailers like Amazon and Whole Foods. Could Dallas County voter turnout boost Democrats across Texas?
Republicans, nearly extinct in the blue county, are trying to sell voters a conservative message to regain relevance.
|
By Gromer Jeffers Jr.
Dallas County underwent a dramatic shift from red to blue in 2006, when Democrats won every contested countywide race. But the success of local candidates hasn’t translated into Democratic wins at the statewide level. More than 470,000 eligible Dallas County voters didn’t participate in the 2020 election, according to the county, a fact Beto O’Rourke is focused on in his race against incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott as Nov. 8 approaches.

Taking a Deep Dive into RAND Research
NNPA Newswire/BlackPressUSA
By Jon Ponder
In some circles, I’m considered “undereducated.” That’s why as the person in charge of all aspects of a prison reform program, given my non-traditional path to the position, I’m curious about how we are doing, according to the experts. In my capacity, I receive quite a bit of research. Ultimately, I was drawn to the RAND Corporation, a pre-eminent research institution. In reviewing some of their key findings, here’s what I learned.

The Path
As we walk through life's journey, we leave footprints. Some just show where we are going. Others redirect us when we get lost. Still others remain to guide those we leave behind. I see your footprints.
Will you/they see mine?
