We are again holding our breath about the most recent attack on a woman's right to reproductive health care.
Any minute, the Supreme Court will rule on a nationwide ban on the FDA-approved drug, mifepristone. Mifepristone is one of the two medications to block early pregnancy progression and treat women following a miscarriage. In a case filed in Texas, an extremist, Trump-appointed federal judge wants to ban access to this drug pending the outcome of litigation.
Attorney General Miyares failed to protect women's access to health care when he did not join other Attorneys General who filed a separate case in Washington State. The judge, in that case, upheld access to mifepristone in DC and the 17 states that filed suit. No surprise, Virginia was not one of them.
Given a chance, Governor Youngkin will ask the General Assembly for an abortion ban like Florida's 6-week heartbeat law or even worse. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, 12 states have enacted total bans.
As your HD-7 Delegate, I will work to codify reproductive rights and fight for access to medical care for all. I will use my experience as an attorney, a twice-elected official who has worked to change policy impacting education, and Planning Commissioner to lead the fight.
