Hi Friend!

It’s been a little while—I promise I have a good reason! I won a booth at MomCo’s national conference (MomCon) in Denver this September, where over 4,000 moms gathered to have their cups refilled.

It was a lot of work, but such a blessing (thanks MomCo) and so much fun. I met many incredible women and was asked to lead a devotional at the alumni breakfast.

I’m especially grateful for the people who made it all possible—my dear friend Ellen (my booth buddy), my Denver friends Allison, Lisa, and Kim, and my Aunt Karen and my Mom who made the pencil pouches that were a hit.

Designing the MomCo booth was such a creative outlet for me—I loved making it feel warm and inviting. That same heart for creating cozy spaces for God to move is what inspired this next event.

If you’re near the Chicago suburbs, I’m co-hosting an OPEN event on Sunday, Oct 25th in Marengo, IL for the first 20 women who sign up. It’s called “Pause & Paint: A Watercolor and Journaling Event" and the flyer below has all the details.

(BTW: If you have an artist at your church or organization, I would love to co-host a similar event for your women.)

TAKE FLIGHT WITH IMPERFECT WINGS

A few weeks after my husband died, I went for a walk alone. My heart was broken, and my chest felt like I had a hole a foot wide blown through it. I wasn’t sure how we were supposed to go on without Jon.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a gorgeous, big butterfly. If fluttered past me gracefully and landed on a bush. I approached slowly and saw her wings were damaged in four places. I didn't know butterflies could still fly with so much injury to their wings. It stayed there for several minutes, as if it was giving me permission to study it and take a picture.

Butterflies have always had a special place in my heart and I tend to notice them. That day, it felt like God was reminding me of something I needed to hear:

You can still fly with damaged wings.

Maybe you need that reminder today, too.

I don’t know what you’re going through. Maybe you have some damaged wings too caused by grief, disappointment, rejection, a broken relationship, or a dream that didn’t happen. And maybe life won’t ever be the way it was before.

God doesn’t promise that we won’t be wounded or experience hardships. He clearly states in His Word that we will have trouble in this life.

But He does tell us to take heart and He promises to be with us in the middle of our brokenness and pain. He can bring strength where we feel weak, hope where we feel empty, and beauty in places we thought were ruined.

So today, if you’re looking at your life and wondering how you’ll ever move forward, remember: you can still fly with damaged wings. God does not need a perfect person or a perfect life. He just needs a willing and open heart.

God is still writing your story. And there may be more ahead than you can see right now.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

— Isaiah 40:29

I hope you found this email uplifting. Maybe someone you know needs to hear this story today. Please feel free to share it with them.

One last thing - there are a few fun things happening this fall that I listed on the flyer below. The January Costa Rica 7-day Health & Holy Spirit Retreat for 14 women is filling up.
