I have to quarantine! What do I do?

When you have to quarantine due to illness, pending COVID tests, or because you're a close contact, it can be confusing to determine what's next. Here's a simple, step-by-step guide to get you back to the classroom!

STEP 1: Notify Your Teachers

• Email or Microsoft Teams chat all of your teachers with your quarantine status and approximate return date.
• Here's a sample message you can use...

Dear [Insert Teacher's Name],

I just received notice that I am required to quarantine for the next [Insert #] days. I will be checking my Teams and PlusPortals each morning for our class assignments and work, and I know that I am expected to complete them on my own, but if there is any other work or reading that I can do to stay on track in class, please let me know.

Thank you,

[Insert Student Name]

STEP 2: Daily Schoolwork Plan (Mandatory)

• By 10am EACH day, you are expected to check BOTH Microsoft Teams and PlusPortals for your daily work and assignments. Your teachers will assume you're doing so and will expect it to be submitted on time, as if you were in school.
• You'll make up any tests and quizzes when you get back to school.
• Email or Microsoft Teams chat your teachers with any questions and check both throughout the day.
• NOTE: Each of your teachers will be following these steps but will have their specific guidelines, too. Talk to each of them so you know their expectations for you.

STEP 3: Optional Zooms with Your Teachers

• If you need extra help with your work, your teachers will be available for a Zoom check-in with your before or after school.
• YOU are responsible for scheduling that meeting via email or Microsoft Teams chat.

STEP 4: Preparing to Return

• Once you have been cleared to return to school by the School Nurse, email or Microsoft Teams chat your teachers to begin scheduling makeup tests/quizzes.
• Here's a sample message you can use...

Dear [Insert Teacher's Name],

I have been cleared to return to school beginning tomorrow. I will come see you during the day to schedule the tests and quizzes that I missed. In the meantime, if there is anything else I need to complete to be caught up for my return, please let me know.

Thank you,

[Insert Student Name]

STEP 5: Makeup Work Upon Return

• Schedule makeup tests and quizzes before school (but not during Academy), during your free period/study, or after school. Complete these in a timely manner!
