Hi, my friend

I was thinking about you while writing this eNews. I hope you know that everything we do is an expression of our love for you, our community, and the places that make life here worthy of our devotion.

In this issue of The Dirt, you'll find stories that attest to our love of the people and lands in the Kaniksu Region, including a touching tribute to a landowner we cherish, some ways that you can express your affection for this work we do together, and how our nature education initiatives demonstrate our love for the next generation.

Let's dig in.

CONSERVATION

Loving Pete

We honor the life of one of KLT’s cherished landowner partners, who passed away recently, leaving behind a lasting gift to the land he loved. Before his death, he chose to protect his 94-acre property in Sanders County, Montana through a Conservation Agreement, ensuring its upland forests, agricultural fields, wetlands, and sweeping Clark Fork Valley vistas would remain working and wild forever.

The land provides vital habitat for countless species, including spring range for elk and deer, and serves as an important connective corridor between public lands, sustaining wildlife movement and agricultural heritage together.

That he took this step in his lifetime speaks volumes about his character: thoughtful, generous, and guided by a deep sense of stewardship for future generations.

“He was the best sort of human, a wonderfully kind and gentle soul, and a jolly old elf with always a twinkle in his eye. And he cared so fervently for his land," our Conservation Director, Regan shared. "Thankfully, he was able to finally make it home from the hospital at the very end to look out his picture window at the place he most loved and feel the sun on his face. I am so honored that KLT could play a role in helping to protect this special place at the end of his journey.”

For The Love of The Sled Hill

Dover Planning and Zoning reviewed our request for the Sled Hill Special Use Permit at their meeting last month and recommended sending to the City Council for final approval. A special Public Hearing is scheduled for March 18. Your support at this meeting would convey to the City Council the importance of this property as a vital community resource. Here's how you can be of support:

  • Attend the Public Hearing at Dover City Hall on Wed. March 18th at 6 PM.
  • Mail a Letter of Support to Dover City Council: PO Box 115, Dover, ID 83825.
  • Email your Letter of Support: cityclerk@cityofdoveridaho.org

Letters and emails must be received at City Hall by Wednesday, March 11th.

Thank you for being part of this effort to move

The Sled Hill Special Use Permit forward!
