Hosanna E-Update

February 16, 2016
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.
From Pastor Linda
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never be hungry."   from John 6
Dear Friends~
Whether we are experiencing sadness, stress, loneliness, or even celebratory excitement, we can often find ourselves in the kitchen searching for a snack. This emotional eating - eating prompted by emotions rather than physical hunger - usually involves foods that aren't good for our bodies, as well as excessive amounts of that less-than-healthy food. (Of course that excludes dark chocolate!)
On Sundays we have been exploring the I AM sayings of Jesus and this Sunday Jesus calls himself "the bread of life" ( John 6:35 ). We have all been created with a void that can be filled only by God- a God-shaped hole! We can try filling it with things of this world, such as food, but we will never feel satisfied. That being the case, when we find ourselves dealing with intense emotions - usually low, but sometimes high - we need to learn to turn to God, perhaps in prayer or celebratory thanksgiving and praise, which is the only thing that will satisfy our true hunger. Try it this week!
See you in church ~   Pastor Linda

Thank You

I wanted to share a special thank you to everyone that helped make our 2 nd annual Soup-er Bowl a success. We had over 200 people come to the event and raised $6,800 that will be used to benefit Music & Worship technology needs and Feed My Starving Children. Thank you to the action team members and Hosanna staff for your help in planning and preparing for the event, those that sold tickets on Wednesdays and Sundays, the generous people that donated one of the 113 items that were on display in the silent auction, the kitchen volunteers that prepared and served the meal and desserts, the volunteers that helped the night of the event with check-in, activities, the auction and youth lock-in. Your help and generosity is truly appreciated.

Many thanks to all of you that came to the event, invited family, a friend or a neighbor and shared in the food, fun and fellowship with us all. It was so fun to see so many people familiar and not, joining in the fun.

I also want to thank the Forest Lake High School National Honor Society for filling dozens of volunteer shifts the night of the event. It was so great to have these wonderful youth helping out in so many ways. Having their presence made this feel like a community event, not just a Hosanna event.

Lastly, I would like to thank the area businesses that generously donated items for our silent auction. I have included a list of the businesses and individuals (see below) that donated to the event in the hopes that you will thank them the next time you visit their businesses and show your support by shopping locally. Thanks to the donations from these businesses and our countless members, we auctioned off a total of 113 items and services that brought in a total of $2,884. Please show your thanks by supporting these businesses.

Truly Soup-er Thankful,

Rachel C. Kaup
