Monday, August 8, 2022 ******************************* For Immediate Release
My name is Geoffrey L. Gates, and I’m proud to officially launch my campaign for New Orleans Municipal and Traffic Court Division “E” Judge.

Both of my parents were educators in the New Orleans Public School System and worked in City government for many years. Seeing their dedication to our community showed me the value of public service at a young age.

I have been a proud public servant here in New Orleans for over 22 years. I have served as a Prosecutor in the New Orleans Municipal and Traffic Court for the last 14 years, and as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the City of New Orleans.

Formerly, I served on the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court Conflict Panel, as an Adjunct Professor at Dillard University, as an Assistant District Attorney in the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office, as a Judicial Law Clerk in the First City Court of New Orleans, as a Legislative Aide for the New Orleans City Council District E, and as a Community Resource Counselor at the Orleans Private Industry Council.

In the community, I am an active member of the State Bar of Louisiana. I am also a graduate of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area Committee Leadership Forum, a member of the Young Democrats of Carrollton, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, and a Board Member of the Travelers' Aide Society.

I'm also a proud graduate of St. Augustine High School, Xavier University of Louisiana, and the Southern University Law Center.

I believe that all of these experiences have properly prepared me to be fair and compassionate from the bench.

My vision for the New Orleans Municipal and Traffic Court is to remove structural barriers that have existed for far too long. I intend to be equity-advancing, fair & impartial, evidence-based, and focused & aware.

With hope for New Orleans,
Geoffrey L. Gates
