not about the bike
I should do that
On my beach bike pedaling along the coast and feeling healthy on a lovely sunny morning, I pass by an exercise group on the beach using kettlebells.

I should do that, I murmur to myself.

But wait, remember ... I don't even like lifting weights - I like riding my bike. So why can't this be a good enough activity for me today?

Snippeteers, how many times do you say, "I should do that." Yet is that "thing" you think you should be doing, something you actually wanna do? Or only something "they" say you should do? [And who is "they" anyway? We don't even know them and we're listening to them?]

I don't really feel like lifting kettlebells. That was only a pressure statement because I noticed someone else doing it. I like biking, I like pickleball, I like yoga, I like swimming, I like walking. So there.

What do you pressure yourself to do?

  • I should clean out my car.
  • I should lose a few pounds
  • I should start doing sit-ups.
  • I should get another job.
  • I should read more.
  • I should probably go to bed.
  • I should take up bull fighting.
  • I should practice not speaking so loudly.
  • I should paint my toenails.
  • I should ______________.

Do what YOU feel like doing - what you want to do. No one is actually should-ing you - except yourself.

Why can't you be good enough for today?

(and other parts of that issue)

"Well said. As human beings we’re all flawed, and the only way we can correct our flaws is to admit them in the first place which is hard to do. A little humility goes a long way, and we can all us some."
~ Bob in Delaware

"About the 'no fault husband' ... I’m wondering if they both forgot how to communicate, especially about those little things that don’t seem important at the moment. Maybe 34 years of small, almost unnoticeable things finally became a big issue.
I do read other snippeteer comments and enjoy them. I like to see other perspectives."

[re: Art of The Shrug] "Great little video – with great big lessons. His voice even seemed to match the message, didn’t it? Thank you for sharing!"
~ Marian in Maryland

"I love it - I always read these!"
~ Anita

"Love your SNIPPETS. Look forward to it!"
~ Jean in Dallas, Texas

"I enjoy reading others' comments. I think this section unites your readers. I skip nothing!" LOL
~ Geri in Delaware

"Do I read or scroll through? A little of both. I tend to skim these. Really depends on how much time and how many other emails I have. Other times it depends on whether I can relate to the comments. When I do take the time, it is nice to see another’s perspective. Also, REALLY nice to see the positive and thought-provoking impact your writing has on others."
~ Catherine in Maryland

"Pink is my favorite color, too! It can be bold and sassy, soft and feminine. Pair it with yellow and it’s as happy as morning sunshine ... with red and it’s fashion forward ... and with orange or green for fun and just to show how fun and different we are or can be. Yes, I, too, love pink. Can you tell?!!"
~ Mercy in Texas
