IACC Program Expands Amazon Anti-Counterfeiting Tools

The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) and Amazon have expanded their joint program by offering participants insight into the counterfeit sales volumes of known infringers. IACC member brands will be able to leverage the sales information to focus their enforcement efforts, and more efficiently partner with law enforcement and Amazon to target the most egregious counterfeiters.
Launched in 2018, the IACC-Amazon program is a unique voluntary collaboration that provides streamlined, substantive engagement between IACC members and the retailer. Through the program, brands get an expedited path for enforcement issue resolution and a real-time feedback mechanism to drive long-term solutions.

Alibaba imports e-commerce platforms adopts traceability

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba announced its import e-commerce platform Koala has updated its products to include a full-link traceability blockchain system, according to a Sina Finance
report. T
he report revealed that the integration of Ant Financial’s blockchain in the Koala platform allows online buyers to find out the purchasing goods detailed logistic information through scanning a QR code with Alipay. The updated Koala application is designed to provide consumers with a traceable icon after completing the purchase on the order page. A blockchain QR code and an anti-counterfeit fingerprint sign will be added on the page, says the source. Alibaba Group

Koala for about $2 billion in late 2019. A journalist told the local news that this traceability blockchain system was developed after the acquisition.

EMA warns consumers about falsified COVID-19 drugs from online pharmacies
|
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is urging the public not to buy medicines from unauthorised online pharmacy websites and vendors. They state that any claim a product can treat or prevent COVID-19 is unfounded, as there are no approved therapeutics or vaccines as of yet.
They also stated that if a legitimate medicine that is otherwise in short supply is listed on an online pharmacy it is likely to be falsified, ie, a fake being passed off as the authorised product. Falsified medicines may contain the wrong or no active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) or the correct API in the wrong dosage. They are often found to also contain harmful substances, unsafe for human consumption.

Demand in China surges for “no touch” hologram buttons
|
A technology company in the city of Hefei, west of Shanghai, has attracted more than 100 orders for its holographic lift buttons as Chinese look for ways to avoid touching surfaces that may harbour the Covid-19 virus.
The device works by projecting an image of buttons in the air, and allowing users to “touch” them. The maker, Easpeed, says it can be fitted to all elevators, and has a response time of less than 30 milliseconds. The system is relatively expensive, at about $2,000, prompting some building owners to opt for retrofitted voice controls, at a cost of around $500.

Nepal PAC directs Ministry to scrap purchasing security press

The Public Account Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has directed the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to scrap the process initiated to purchase a security printing press. Lawmakers at the PAC meeting viewed that the previous process to buy the security printing press must be scrapped and a new global tender issued for competitive bidding. The PAC meeting voiced that the process was full of irregularities. It also directed the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority to investigate the irregularities rife in the procurement process.

Australia reveals design of nextgen $100 banknote

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) revealed the design of the new $100 banknote, which is the final denomination to be redesigned as part of the Next Generation Banknote Program. The banknote will be released into circulation in the second half of 2020.
The wattle frames the edges of the top-to-bottom window on the banknote, which features a number of security elements such as the flying owl, and a reversing number 100.

India approve new Pesticides Management Bill 2020, empowering farmers to fight spurious agrochemicals

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Pesticides Management Bill, 2020, which, the government claims, will regulate the business of pesticides and compensate farmers in case of losses from the use of spurious agro-chemicals. The bill aims to regulate the business of pesticides that is currently being regulated by the age-old 1968 rules, which require immediate rewriting. The bill will now be presented in the Parliament. Under Pesticides Management Bill, 2020, the farmers will be compensated in in case of losses of crops due to the use of spurious agrochemicals.

Drug marketer to be held responsible for quality

From March 2021, pharma firms marketing drugs will be held responsible for their quality. Currently, only the manufacturers are held liable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act
Pharmaceutical companies that market drugs will now fall under the ambit of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act (DCA), according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). This means they will be held liable if the drug is found to be spurious, or its quality is deemed sub-standard. At present, only the manufacturer of the drug is held liable under the DCA.
