Asthma- KSA Working Group

Easily fulfill the 60-question Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA with this half-day session that meets your ABFM’s Family Medicine Certification Self-Assessment Activities requirement.

  • Review 60 core competency questions with experienced family physician faculty, and decide the best answer with your colleagues.
  • The IAFP reports your answers directly to the ABFM on your behalf.

How the Virtual KSA Works

In order to provide an ABFM-endorsed KSA group study session, the ABFM requires that the program administrators embed “code words” into the webinar slides to ensure that participants are paying attention throughout the duration of the program. You will be asked to capture these code words on an evaluation tool that will be sent to you in advance.

The most important function of the webinar is the polling process which helps to determine group consensus on what answer should be submitted on the ABFM’s answer sheet. Instructions on this important process will be detailed prior to the start of the program with plenty of time for participants to test the system.

In a nutshell, questions will be displayed, read verbally by the moderator, and then opened for participants to respond. Next, poll results will be displayed and discussed with guidance from the expert speaker. If consensus on an assessment answer is not clear, a re-poll may be necessary. The IAFP staff will be working in the background to collect group answers on the approved ABFM answer sheet. Finally, the answer sheet will be submitted as a group to the ABFM and individuals will be credited for completion of the KSA once event evaluations are received within 72 hours.

Presentations include engaging topics like:

  • What’s in a Doctor’s Bag? – Elementary students explore medical tools and try their own (disposable) stethoscope.
  • How Does a Heart Work? – Middle schoolers learn about the circulatory system through a real mammal heart dissection.
  • What Our Blood Tells Us – Students discover the science of blood, DNA, and phlebotomy with a venipuncture practice kit.
