AAFP Advocacy Action Alert

Support H-1B Physicians

On September 21, 2025, a new federal Proclamation took effect imposing a $100,000 fee on employers seeking to hire new employees, including physicians, through the H-1B visa program. This threatens the ability of international medical graduates to train and practice in the United States even though these physicians are critical to our nation’s health care system.

We need your voice to ensure Congress takes action. Please urge your members of the House and Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees to:

  • Press DHS to exempt all physicians from the $100,000 fee required of new H-1B visa applicants.
  • Recognize that physicians who hold H-1B visas are vital to the United States’ health care and national interest.

Discover Family Medicine in Iowa

Bring Family Medicine to Life in the Classroom!

The Iowa Academy of Family Physicians is passionate about connecting students with real-life doctors from their own communities. By sharing personal stories and hands-on demonstrations, we can inspire curiosity and plant the seeds for future careers in medicine.

Presentations include engaging topics like:

  • What’s in a Doctor’s Bag? – Elementary students explore medical tools and try their own (disposable) stethoscope.
  • How Does a Heart Work? – Middle schoolers learn about the circulatory system through a real mammal heart dissection.
  • What Our Blood Tells Us – Students discover the science of blood, DNA, and phlebotomy with a venipuncture practice kit.

…and more!
