Interfaith Assistance Ministry

2025 Courage Project Recipient

IAM is thrilled to announce that we have received The Courage Project Award for our efforts in response to Hurricane Helene. We are humbled and honored to be selected for this prestigious award - one of only 20 granted nationally. We are particularly proud to acknowledge all of our partner organizations, volunteers, and new friends from around the country who helped us help others during an unprecedented time of challenge here in Western North Carolina.

Great thanks to The Courage Project for this honor. Read more about this award and the good work of The Courage Project here.

IAM's Annual Holiday Food Drive

Now Through December 19th

IAM’s Annual Holiday Food Drive is happening now through December 19th!

The holidays will be especially hard on many of our neighbors this year as the need for nutritious food continues to grow in the face rising food costs and cuts to supplemental food programs.

Please consider donations of special holiday foods (listed on the flyer) so that our neighbors in need may share in the joy of a special holiday meal in their own homes. Especially appreciated are 6-10 lb. hams and 8-15 lb. turkeys, gravy, mashed potatoes, fried onions, stuffing mix, and cranberry sauce.

Thank you for sharing seasonal joy with our neighbors in need!

Support IAM's
Winter Coat Drive!

The temperatures are dropping, and IAM is collecting new and gently used coats to help keep our neighbors warm this winter! Children's coats are particularly helpful, but every coat makes a difference in helping our community stay warm and healthy this season. Thank you for caring for our neighbors in need!

Donations can be brought to IAM at 310 Freeeman Street (off Four Seasons Blvd.), Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., now through January 30.

Volunteer at IAM

Our Neighbors Need You Now More than Ever!

We have many volunteer opportunities available. Your presence can make a profound difference and not just in the tasks you do, but in the comfort and kindness you share.

If you're able, we'd love for you to bring a friend who shares your heart for service. Together, we can ensure no neighbor is left unseen, and that every person who comes to us feels truly supported. Thank you for being a part of IAM.

Remembering Harold Showalter

Harold working in the IAM gardens earlier this year.

Our community lost a great friend and devoted servant of the people in October.

Longtime IAM volunteer Harold Showalter will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit. Before the pandemic, Harold dedicated many hours to helping in the food pantry, and when COVID restrictions halted volunteer work, he turned his green thumb toward beautifying IAM’s grounds - using plants from his own garden to create welcoming landscapes.

Known for his quick wit and genuine warmth, Harold had a special gift for finding something positive in everyone he met. His legacy of love, compassion, and care for both people and nature continues to bloom through his family and the gardens he nurtured.

Our condolences to his wife and current IAM Board Member, Linda Showalter, as well as to his extended family and many friends. Harold will be deeply missed.
