National Afterschool Association Honors Two Hoosiers Among Its 2020 Next Generation of Afterschool Leaders
The National AfterSchool Association (NAA) - the voice of the afterschool profession and lead organization for the advancement of afterschool professionals and leaders - has selected Grant Fulton ( Program Director, Ace Clubs - Anderson ) and Joe Deno ( MSW Intern, Indiana Afterschool Network - Indianapolis ) as two of NAA’s 2020 Next Generation of Afterschool Leaders.

The NAA sought to highlight emerging young leaders who are active in the afterschool community - with a proven passion for professional development, efforts to elevate the field, and persistence in their work to grow as leaders. 

"The National AfterSchool Association knows that strong afterschool leaders develop the skilled professionals and teams that run strong organizations and quality programs that result in positive youth outcomes said Gina Warner, President and CEO of NAA. “These emerging leaders will help shape the next generation of the afterschool field."
FSSA's Child Care Finder Resource

In 2016, the Indiana Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA) launched the Child Care Finder to help find licensed and registered child cares in their areas. To help Hoosiers make better-informed decisions about child care and early education options, FSSA has created a short, easy-to-understand, instructional video to direct them to these useful parenting resources.

Afterschool Learning & Enhancing Career Readiness

A new brief from the American Institutes for Research (AIR) explores ways to leverage afterschool time to prepare students at at every stage of career development, from career awareness in kindergarten through sixth grade to career training in eleventh and twelfth grades. The brief offers recommendations for state leaders who are interested in using afterschool programming for career readiness.

Keys to Responding to the Gaps in Indiana’s Pipeline to Success

This session is designed to apprise participants of the current Hoosier educational landscape as it relates to equity. Drawing upon recent findings and trends incorporated into the 2019 Equity Report produced by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE), the presentation will break down existing college and career readiness and success gaps through race & ethnicity, geography, sex, and socioeconomic status. Moreover, targeted initiatives that are facilitated by CHE to eliminate equity gaps will be shared as well as time dedicated to highlighting the work of partners who are implementing effective practices to close equity gaps with their students. Educator Preview Nights at the Indiana State Museum

The Indiana State Museum is offering a chance to preview one of their newest exhibits - "Heartbreak and Hope Inside Our Opioid Crisis" - before your field trip. The exhibit is geared for students in grades 5-12 and adults. There will be an educator guide and additional resources available to best assist teachers, students and chaperones before, during and after the field trip. Museum staff and partners will be available to ask questions during the preview. Space is limited and reservations are required by calling Visitor Services at (317) 23-1637. Aim High – New York Life Foundation Grant
Deadline: January 24, 2020
The New York Life Foundation is seeking applicants for its Aim High local grant program to support afterschool, summer, or expanded learning programs serving middle schoolers. A total of 26 grant awards will be made nationwide, in 3 categories of up to $100,000. Student Teaching Stipend Opportunities
Deadline: January 31, 2020
Two stipend opportunities for future teachers known as the Earline S. Rogers Teaching Stipend for Minorities and the Student Teaching Stipend for High-Need Fields are open through January. The Earline S. Rogers Student Teaching Stipend for Minorities is available to minority students (defined as Black and Hispanic individuals) who will participate in student teaching or a school administration internship as part of their degree requirements. The Student Teaching Stipend for High-Need Fields is available to students planning to teach in special education, math, or science at the middle or high school level. Eligible students can receive up to $4,000 per stipend, or $8,000 if awarded both. More info here.

Professional Learning Community for Emerging Leaders of Color
Deadline: February 10, 2020
NAA is elevating the importance of building a diverse leadership pipeline through the launch of the Professional Learning Community for Emerging Leaders of Color (PLC). The PLC seeks to foster a network of equity-driven leaders of color, support them in deepening their equity analysis and leadership skills to be agents of change in the afterschool field, and help them create a roadmap that advances their careers in the afterschool field.
