Djibouti Flood Appeal
The Islamic Association of North America urges everyone to stand with our brothers and sisters in Djibouti. They have been affected by huge floods that have devastated most of the country. Infrastructure, and roads have been destroyed in some of the worst-hit areas.

UNICEF has reported that Djibouti city and its suburbs have been heavily impacted. Initial estimates indicate that over 30,000-40,000 families (150,000-250,000 people) have been somewhat affected by the floods. Unconfirmed reports put the death toll at 9, including 6 children".

The Somali Islamic Scholars and the Djiboutian community of Minnesota held a press conference urging everyone to take part in providing relief for the flood victims of Djibouti. There was a fundraising for the flood victims on 11/28/2019. About $50,000 were pledged at the fundraiser.

Nu'man bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, " The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever ".  [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] .
HARO AID TO AFRICA
The Humanitarian African Relief Organization (HARO) has over $400,000 and dispersed aid in Beledwayne and other areas affected by the floods.

The exact aid was $420,550. The Aid was dispersed to four thousand families. We were able to provide clean water, food, mosquito nets, medicine, temporary shelter and other aid.

Sh.Yusuf Abdulle of HARO went to Somalia to ensure that the aid went into the right hands. He said that HARO takes aid and gives it to the most vulnerable and often neglected populations.

Since HARO is invested in longterm solutions, they are currently funding research into why there were floods and the reason why the infrastructure failed. HARO also invested in local infrastructure themselves and built toilets in the flooded areas.

IANA would like to thank everyone who took part in the appeal. Especially our member organizations that have contributed more than half of the aid. For that we say Jazakum Allahu Khayran.

USCMO Banquet
USCMO is a national Muslim organization that united national Muslim organizations.

The mission of the US Council of Muslim Organizations:
  • To open effective communication and coordination spectrums between all American Muslim organizations
  • To help solidify these mutually crucial relationships
  • To create and sustain an urgent, collective sense of direction

USCMO had their leadership summit at the capitol of the United States, Washington DC in November. In this summit USCMO discussed various issues faced by muslims locally, nationwide, and internationally. The USCMO leadership also discussed howAmerican Muslims can be more politically active, especially in this politically charged climate of ours. They did this by conducting various workshops around political activism and panels from muslim candidates.

When we become more involved politically active we can bring our issues to the forefront. We can also get elected into political office ourselves and improve our communities in that way as well. This is why it is important for us to participate in local, county, state, and federal elections.

Allah says:
واعتصموا بحبل الله جميعا ولا تفرقوا
"And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves..." [3:103]
Islamic Association of North America (IANA) was founded in the year of 2001 to meet the religious and social needs of Muslim societies in North America. As a response to the changing realities of Muslim communities, IANA re-positions itself to effectively reach diverse Muslim communities across the country.
