U.S. EPA Releases Draft Version 2.0 of the Specification for Tank-Type Toilets
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a draft Version 2.0 of its Specification for Tank-Type Toilets to earn the WaterSense® label. Tank-type toilets have been eligible to earn the WaterSense label since the release of the WaterSense Specification for Tank-Type Toilets in 2007. During a formal review of the specification, EPA received feedback from stakeholders indicating that dual-flush toilets may not be reaching the expected water savings due to user preference and confusion regarding the different flushing modes of dual-flush toilets.

On Tuesday, January 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern, EPA will host a virtual public meeting to discuss the suggested criteria within the draft specification revision. Meeting information will be provided upon registration, and materials will be emailed to registered participants prior to the webinar date.

What are PFAS and What Can Be Done About Them?
The per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances known as PFAS are large and complex groups of synthetic chemicals that have been used in various products throughout the world since mid-19th century. PFAS molecules contain whole families of chemicals that are comprised of carbon and fluorine atoms. These chemicals are manmade and there are thousands of varying functional groups that can include other elements such as oxygen, hydrogen or sulfur. They are called “Forever Chemicals” because they are extremely persistent, can last for thousands of years and are almost impossible to break with currently available technology.

Texas Legislature Reaffirms Support for Uniform Plumbing Code
The 88th Texas Legislature this session has reaffirmed support for the Uniform Plumbing Code® (UPC®). House Bill 2689 would have mandated that all jurisdictions in the state adopt the International Plumbing Code, thus limiting options for jurisdictions in Texas. This issue has been unsuccessfully pushed by special interests for the last few legislative sessions and, once again, the measure failed. This victory was delivered by years of hard work and dedication by the plumbing industry.
