As 2024 draws to a close, I’m excited to share that IAPMO is not only financially robust, having increased our reserves by an impressive 48% over the past three years, but we are also poised for continued growth in revenue, well ahead of our 2024 budget projections. With a dedicated team of 328 employees — 250 based in the United States and the remainder spread across the globe, complemented by roughly 140 other technical experts who regularly contribute their work to the organization — we are a strong, collaborative force working tirelessly to deliver exceptional codes, services and advocacy for our industry. This growth is reflected in our ongoing projects and expansions, from new laboratories in Australia and Mexico to significant remodeling in California, all designed to enhance our testing capabilities and better serve our communities.

IAPMO R&T, North America’s premier plumbing, water systems, and mechanical product certification agency, is now licensed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to certify point-of-use reverse osmosis (RO) systems to earn the WaterSense® label.
IAPMO R&T has been a licensed provider of WaterSense certification since 2007, certifying the first high-efficiency toilet (HET) to the standard in April of that year. To date, IAPMO R&T has certified thousands of lavatory faucet, toilet, urinal, showerhead and weather-based irrigation controller models to the WaterSense specifications. Preparing For Hydrogen: A New Era in Fuel Gas Piping
The clean energy transition is picking up speed, and hydrogen is ready to play a leading role. As a fuel option, hydrogen can significantly cut carbon emissions and presents exciting possibilities for energy independence, sustainability, and local resilience. Like other powerful innovations, it brings its own unique challenges. Challenges lie particularly in safety when integrating it into our existing infrastructure, not to mention preparing the workforce for its widespread adoption and awareness of material incompatibilities.

Fourth Quarter Update – Government Activity Report
It was just election season and political ads were playing in full force in homes across the nation. It is no wonder why! Between January 2023 and April 2024, U.S. political campaigns collected around $8.6 billion for the 2024 House, Senate, and presidential elections. More than 65% of that money, about $5.6 billion, came from political action committees (PACs).
Individual candidates have drawn more than $2 billion, while party committees raised just more than $929.9 million. As of October 2024, the campaigns spent approximately $3.9 billion of total funds raised. Money aside, with the control of the White House, Congress, and several state legislatures in play, ASSE/IAPMO’s Government Relations team has been busy working to make sure that our industry’s interests are represented.

Legionella in Water: Why the General Services Administration Took Action on Water Quality
| |
In this episode, we discuss the General Services Administration (GSA) order to address the risk of Legionella and other waterborne pathogens in the water systems of GSA-controlled buildings. The GSA, which owns 1,600 federal buildings and leases space in over 6,500 buildings nationwide, was spurred to action after detecting elevated levels of Legionella bacteria at six GSA-controlled buildings in different regions since 2023. Our guest Dr. Abraham Cullom, a microbiologist with expertise in plumbing systems, talks about the GSA order and the urgent need to stay on top of emerging best water quality practices for plumbing systems to protect building occupants.
