IAPMO Publishes 2024 Editions of Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC)
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) has published the 2024 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code® (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code® (UMC) in both hardcopy and electronic versions, completing a three‐year consensus development cycle accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
WaterSense-Certified Spray Sprinkler Bodies Prevent Waste, Ensure Proper Coverage
Representing roughly 30 percent of the average U.S. household utilization of water, outdoor applications are estimated to be 9 billion gallons per day for a total of 3.2 trillion gallons over the course of a year. With significantly higher amounts used in arid parts of the country, most of this water is used for landscape irrigation.

Residential landscape irrigation systems frequently incorporate standard spray sprinkler bodies at locations where the system pressure exceeds their design limitations. As a result, they deliver uneven and insufficient coverage while also wasting significant amounts of water.
IAPMO and ESPRI Seek Public Initial Input on Manual of Water Quality for Plumbing Industry Professionals and Building Managers
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) and the Environmental Science, Policy, and Research Institute (ESPRI) are seeking the public’s initial input for development of the Manual of Water Quality for Plumbing Industry Professionals and Building Managers.

This publication provides basic guidance to help plumbing system design engineers, building owners, and water system managers obtain important information from their water suppliers (public water systems; water suppliers or purveyors) to help them design, install, and manage potable water systems that maintain water quality all the way to the end users while simultaneously protecting the pipes, fittings, fixtures, and other components that make up these systems.
IAPMO’s Water Demand Calculator™ Version 2.2 Available for Download
IAPMO is excited to announce that the Water Demand Calculator™ version 2.2 is now available for download.

While the basic template of version 2.1 of the calculator remains intact, version 2.2 includes several new features. First, version 2.2 implements a new algorithm called the method of convolution to replace exhaustive enumeration. The new algorithm is faster and has a smoother transition to the other methods of computation. This new computation method assures accurate predictions of peak indoor water demand.
Using IAPMO’s Water Demand Calculator™ Can Lead to Energy, Carbon and Water Savings in Single and Multifamily Residences, Study Finds
Using the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials’ (IAPMO) Water Demand Calculator™ as an alternative to sizing methods in traditional plumbing codes can result in energy, carbon and water savings with no change to how residents use plumbing fixtures in their homes every day, an analysis by Arup, a global collective of designers, consultants and experts dedicated to sustainable development, has found.

Texas Legislature Reaffirms Support for Uniform Plumbing Code
The 88th Texas Legislature this session has reaffirmed support for the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®). House Bill 2689 would have mandated that all jurisdictions in the state adopt the International Plumbing Code, thus limiting options for jurisdictions in Texas. This issue has been unsuccessfully pushed by special interests for the last few legislative sessions and, once again, the measure failed. This victory was delivered by years of hard work and dedication by the plumbing industry.
New York State Adopted Appliance and Equipment Efficiency Regulations
New York State has adopted appliance and equipment efficiency regulations that will impact what products can be legally sold, rented, leased, and installed. These regulations established minimum energy and water efficiency requirements for 16 new consumer products, similar to the requirements in other states (e.g., Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Jersey). These regulations become effective on June 26, 2023.

Beaumont, Texas, Adopts 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code to Replace International Plumbing Code
