Supporting superintendents through every stage of their leadership journey remains one of IASA’s highest priorities. For over a decade, the Field Services Director (FSD) program has served as a cornerstone of that commitment — connecting new superintendents with experienced leaders who provide mentorship, guidance, and trusted support during the critical first years in the role.
IASA extends our sincere appreciation to Dr. Sheila Harrison-Williams for her dedicated service as Field Services Director supporting the Cook South, Cook West, and Three Rivers regions. We are grateful for her commitment to mentoring and supporting Illinois superintendents and wish her the very best.
With Dr. Harrison-Williams stepping down from this role, IASA has developed an interim support model for the 2026–27 school year designed to ensure continued, comprehensive support for members in these regions. This transition also provides an opportunity to strengthen connections, expand access to experienced leaders, and continue exploring innovative ways to meet the evolving needs of today’s superintendents.
IASA is pleased to announce the following Field Services Directors who will provide interim support for the Cook West, Cook South, and Three Rivers regions this year:
Dr. Ed Condon – Cook West Region
Dr. Condon recently retired after 15 years as superintendent of River Forest SD #90. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his collaborative leadership, commitment to continuous improvement, and dedication to building systems that support students, staff, and communities.
Dr. John Palan – Three Rivers Region
Dr. Palan recently retired after 15 years as superintendent of Grant Park CUSD #6. During his tenure, the district received numerous recognitions for excellence. Dr. Palan has also contributed to the profession through his leadership and service on the IASA Board of Directors.
Dr. Denean Adams – Cook South Region
Dr. Adams brings more than three decades of educational leadership experience, including service as a superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, professor, and district leader. Her broad leadership experience will provide valuable perspective and support for superintendents navigating today’s complex educational landscape.
Dr. Mable Alfred – Cook South Region
Dr. Alfred brings more than 35 years of educational leadership experience, including serving as superintendent of Elementary School District #159. Her work has focused on strengthening relationships, developing leaders, supporting stakeholder engagement, and building effective systems.
Dr. Adams and Dr. Alfred will continue serving as IASA Directors of Academic Empowerment while providing additional support through this interim Field Services Director structure.
Field Services Directors serve as trusted mentors and thought partners — answering questions, providing guidance, creating connections, and supporting leaders throughout their superintendent journey.
As we move forward, IASA remains committed to continuously improving how we support our members and ensuring every superintendent has access to the relationships, resources, and expertise needed to thrive.
