Indiana SWCDs Honor Lisa Holscher
(Indiana Prairie Farmer article, Tom J Bechman, Jan 15, 2020) - Lisa Holscher may not be a name you recognize. But if you’ve attended any soil and water conservation field days about no-till and cover crops over the past several years, odds are good she had a hand in helping with the program, even if it was just providing advice. Holscher, Petersburg, Ind., usually works behind the scenes as executive director of the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative. Formed a few years ago, it’s responsible for helping Indiana farmers interested in no-till and soil health network and learn from each other statewide.

IDEA and the New Region Directors, 2020
The Indiana District Employees Association was established in 1985 by a handful of SWCD staff from around the state who believed in the “IDEA” of empowerment, team work and opportunities for staff. They shared a common vision of “ A network of professional conservationists who, by sharing their expertise and skills, provide quality service to all customers.” Today I.D.E.A is 146 members strong and growing. USDA NRCS Chief Increasing Staff to Meet Growing Demand
(Hoosier Ag Today, By  Eric Pfeiffer  - Jan 13, 2020) - The head of USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service was in Indiana Monday. NRCS Chief Matt Lohr was in Indianapolis at the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts annual meeting. He spoke to a crowded ballroom of county and state SWCD representatives thanking them for their partnership.“We’re a big federal agency; 9,000 employees in 2,500 offices across the country, but we can’t do it alone. It takes the partnership with our conservation districts and certainly our producers and other groups all working together. So, the theme of my presentation today was really preaching that collaboration and partnership. There’s a lot of opportunities. We’ve accomplished a lot, but there’s a lot more that we can do if we if we stay focused on the why behind we do conservation for that next generation and how we can all come together as partners to collaborate and bring resources together.”
