IASWECE Newsletter

June 2025

Dear colleagues, parents, and friends around the world!

The tenderness and helplessness of newborn babies instinctively move us to protect and care for them. For children, we are essential; they desperately need to feel that there is a community that welcomes them and provides them with shelter and affection. They need to be seen. Through attachment, they become rooted in life, develop trust in life, and are able to feel safe and capable. For young children, attachment is as important as eating or breathing. Educators Philipp Gelitz and Claudia Grah-Wittich invite us to reflect on this fundamental topic.

In addition, we have good news! Preparations are progressing rapidly for the celebration of the 100 Anniversary of Steiner/Waldorf Early Childhood Education, which will take place from 8 to 12 April 2026 in Dornach. The programme and registration will be available soon. Be sure to read all the information! In his article, Tomáš Zdražil invites us to learn more about the life of Elisabeth von Grunelius, the first Waldorf kindergarten teacher.

We are delighted to warmly welcome two new member countries to IASWECE: Argentina and Croatia. We also want to acknowledge the efforts and success of the early childhood courses that IASWECE supports in Zimbabwe.

We hope that this newsletter will inspire you in your daily work and that you will continue to support and follow our activities on behalf of young children with interest.

Warm greetings,
