SWA and BDG
Operation Career Launch
SWA (Sustainable Workplace Alliance) and BDG (Bureau of Dangerous Goods) have teamed up yet again to offer a 3.5 week training and job placement program delivered at no cost to a limited number of students per year. Pictured here is our VP Sonia Irusta with candidates from this year's program.
During this 138 hour training program, participants that graduate receive 6 nationally recognized certifications including:
  • HAZWOPER 40 Hour
  • OSHA 15 Hour Site Disaster Worker
  • OSHA 10 Hour in Construction
  • Water and Soil Sampling
  • HAZMAT Awareness, Recognition and Communication
  • Forklift / Powered Industrial Truck
  • First Aid and CPR

Additionally, participants receive training in the following areas:
  • Introduction to Environmental Justice
  • Life Skills and Goal Setting
  • Job Search Strategies and Resume Building
  • How to Succeed at the Job Interview

These certifications and new skills help participants obtain jobs in the environmental services industry. SWA helps graduates find and start their new career by working closely with the Community Outreach Manager to make that happen. Most students start interviewing for jobs during the 3.5 week training, and many start their new job shortly after graduation!

BDG is happy to be a part of this program, and we look forward to continuing our work with SWA to make a difference in the environmental and hazmat industry.
The Placarding Rules and Using DOT Chart 17
Hazmat employees and others involved in the handling and/or shipping of hazardous materials have a responsibility to familiarize themselves with and adhere to the precise regulations governing placarding requirements.
