As we step into 2026, I feel immense gratitude and optimism for the future of IATDMCT. Our association stands as a truly global platform, uniting professionals from diverse regions with a shared commitment to advancing therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and clinical toxicology. This global representation is one of our greatest strengths: it ensures that our discussions, research, and guidelines reflect the realities and needs of patients worldwide.

Looking ahead, I believe our future activities should continue to embrace innovation while remaining focused on our core mission: TDM and clinical toxicology, which are essential pillars of personalized medicine and patient safety. With rapid advances in technology and artificial intelligence, we have an opportunity to integrate these innovations into practice, guided by robust research and evidence (and that’s where our members are good at). IATDMCT should continue leading the conversations on these topics by providing learning opportunities, fostering collaboration, and setting standards that guide clinicians and scientists across the globe.

On a personal note, as I approach a new decade in life (time truly flies!), I am reminded of the importance of creating opportunities for the next generation of scientists. The future of TDM and toxicology depends on their curiosity, creativity, and dedication. We must give them chances to learn, contribute, and lead, and our annual meetings are a great platform for them to showcase their talents. By investing in young professionals and in diversity, we secure the continuity and growth of IATDMCT.

Having served as IATDMCT President for a few months now, I want to thank our members -YOU- for your unwavering commitment and contributions. Your expertise and passion make IATDMCT what it is: a vibrant association with a real impact on patients’ lives. As we move forward, let us continue to share knowledge generously, collaborate across borders, and uphold the highest standards of science and care. Together, we can ensure that IATDMCT’s core mission remains improving patient outcomes.

Brief Biography:
He led the implementation of a centralized MIPD-based TDM service at A.C. Camargo Cancer Center, integrating infectious diseases physicians and clinical pharmacists, with end-to-end TDM coordination, independent clinical interpretation, and longitudinal patient follow-up. His work is centered on closing implementation gaps in LMICs through service design, education, and the scaling of PK/PD- and TDM-based decision-making. He currently serves as ESCMID Local Champion in Brazil and Vice-Chair of the IATDMCT Anti-Infectives Committee.

Current Focus or Projects:
His current work focuses on pragmatic antimicrobial prescribing strategies in resource-limited settings. This includes simplified vancomycin dosing approaches for regions without routine TDM and promoting the rational use of antimicrobials through ongoing projects in LMICs, with current activities in Brazil and Angola. He also co-leads a national survey in Brazil assessing the prevalence and structure of TDM services. In addition, he contributes to collaborative research evaluating the impact of β-lactam serum concentrations on bacterial transcriptomic activation and resistance induction. Lastly, he contributes to IATDMCT Anti-Infectives Subcommittee–led research projects and webinars focused on evaluating TDM practices in LMICs.

He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the IATDMCT Anti-Infectives Committee, supporting research and educational initiatives aimed at expanding PK/PD and TDM practices.

Tuberculosis remains one of the world's most persistent infectious diseases, and despite decades of available treatments, achieving cure remains a long and winding road. The challenge isn't just the disease itself – there is also a notable difference in how patients respond to TB drugs. From the early bactericidal activity in the first two weeks to managing drug-resistant strains, TDM offers a path to optimising treatment while minimising toxicity. Yet significant barriers remain, particularly in the low- and middle-income countries where TB burden is highest. We are joined by Thi Nguyen and Marieke Sturkenboom to discuss the topic.

At the 2026 IATDMCT Congress in Rennes, the venue for the 2030 Congress will be chosen.

Members interested in submitting a proposal to host the Congress must submit an application by July 31, 2026. The purpose of this application is to provide guidance for candidates and to facilitate the task of selecting the final site, for the Site Selection Committee. You may choose to submit the information required on the application form in a different format, but all questions on the form should be addressed. Very often a tourism office, conference centre, or hotel in the region can help you gather the information.

The editors of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring are delighted to announce that the 2026 special issue of the Journal will focus on 'Pharmacometrics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning in Precision Dosing and Clinical Toxicology'. This issue is expected to be developed next year and to be published in February 2027. Dr. Tomoyuki Mizuno, a highly respected expert in this field and Associate Editor of our journal, has agreed to support the project. In addition, the Special Issue will be developed in collaboration with the Pharmacometrics Scientific Committee.

We would like to invite you to participate. Both review and original articles are eligible for submission. Proposals for review articles that you would like to write yourself or review articles by potential authors that you would like to propose to us are welcomed. Work related both to TDM and Clinical Toxicology is of interest.

As usual, the deadline for submissions is the end of June 2026.
