My journey with IATDMCT began in 2011 during my PhD training. I attended my first annual meeting in 2013 in Salt Lake City, and what left the strongest impression on me was the atmosphere—open, welcoming, and genuinely supportive. As a first-time attendee, I immediately felt included. Since then, I have participated regularly in meetings, including Rotterdam (2015), Kyoto (2017), Brisbane (2018), and Foz do Iguaçu (2019), and more recently Oslo (2023), Banff (2024), and Singapore (2025).

My involvement in the Society has steadily evolved. In 2017, I joined the Young Scientist Committee, marking the beginning of more active engagement. Since then, I have contributed to several committees, including Pharmacometrics, Biologics, and Immunosuppressive Drugs. I have had the privilege of serving as a Councilor since 2023 and currently as Secretary. In parallel, I have been serving as an Associate Editor of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring since 2025. I am deeply grateful for these opportunities to contribute to the Society in multiple capacities.

In my current roles, I aim to actively support members who are advancing the field. I hope to help foster an environment where researchers and clinicians feel that IATDMCT is their professional home—a place where their work is recognized, supported, and connected to a broader community.

At the same time, the field continues to evolve into a more modern and integrated form of TDM and Clinical Toxicology. Advances in quantitative approaches have enabled more sophisticated model-informed therapeutic optimization, allowing us to anticipate drug exposure and guide treatment more proactively. In parallel, biomarker research is strengthening the link between drug exposure and clinical response, while innovations in assay technologies are improving data quality and accessibility. Looking ahead, emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence, digital twins, biosensors, omics, microsampling, and robust IT infrastructure—will further transform how we generate, integrate, and apply data in clinical practice. I hope to help promote such vision of modern TDM, where these elements are seamlessly integrated to support truly individualized and data-driven therapeutics.

Equally important is the global dissemination of these advances. Access to optimal drug therapy should not be limited by geography or resources. Promoting inclusivity and expanding access to high-quality TDM and precision dosing across diverse healthcare settings is essential. IATDMCT plays a unique role in this effort by fostering international collaboration, supporting education and regional activities. In this context, Regional Section Committees are particularly important. Following the establishment of Asia-Pacific and Europe sections, Africa and East Mediterranean section have recently been launched, with an Americas section expected soon. These efforts will be essential to strengthening local engagement while maintaining a connected global community.

I strongly believe in the power of collaboration. Together, we can go further than we ever could alone. IATDMCT provides a unique environment to connect with colleagues who share a common goal—optimizing drug therapy for patients. The diversity of backgrounds, expertise, and cultures within our community enables progress that would not be possible individually.

It is a privilege to serve this Society, and I look forward to continuing to advance TDM and CT together with our members worldwide.

Motivation of PhD students/postdocs to attend e.g. IATDMCT or TIAFT meetings and committees. Member of several editorial boards. Awardee of the major awards e.g. of IATDMCT, TIAFT, and GTFCh.

Current Focus or Projects:

Editing updates of the Maurer et al. Mass Spectral Libraries of Wiley (GC-MS, LC-MSn, LC-HR-MS/MS).

Postgraduate Education (national and international)

Activities in IATDMCT, TIAFT, and GTFCh committees.

Contribution to IATDMCT:

Council/Executive Board member (1999-2011), IATDMCT President (2007-2009). Committee member of the IATDMCT meetings e.g. in Basel, Stuttgart, Rotterdam.

Additional letters of support from members of the Association or other respected scientists are welcomed as supporting information for the Selection Committee.

27th International Congress of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring & Clinical Toxicology 2030

Deadline: July 31, 2026

At the 2026 IATDMCT Congress in Rennes, the venue for the 2030 Congress will be chosen.

Members interested in submitting a proposal to host the Congress must submit an application by July 31, 2026. The purpose of this application is to provide guidance for candidates and to facilitate the task of selecting the final site, for the Site Selection Committee. You may choose to submit the information required on the application form in a different format, but all questions on the form should be addressed. Very often a tourism office, conference centre, or hotel in the region can help you gather the information.

Adherence to medication is the very basic level we wish to reach in patient care. Yet for many patients taking drugs every day (sometimes several times a day, over long periods of time), this is far from straightforward. Treatment failure and adverse drug reactions can result not from the wrong medicine, but from inconsistent intake. Non-adherence is rarely intentional; it is a complex, multifaceted problem shaped by practical barriers, patient perceptions, and the realities of daily life. Therapeutic drug monitoring offers a powerful objective tool for fixing this hole - identifying who is and isn't taking their medication, enabling clinicians to have targeted, constructive conversations and intervene in ways that can make an effective difference. We are joined by Jorie Versmissen and Lene Halvorsen to discuss the topic.

Pharmacometrics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning in Precision Dosing and Clinical Toxicology

Call for Papers

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) invites submissions for a Special Issue focused on the integration of pharmacometrics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) to advance precision dosing, therapeutic drug monitoring, and clinical toxicology. This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research, innovative methodologies, and clinically impactful applications that enhance individualized pharmacotherapy and decision-making through quantitative and computational approaches.

Aims & Scope

This Special Issue seeks high-quality contributions that explore the intersection of:

Pharmacometrics: Population PK/PD modelling, PBPK, QSP, disease modeling, Bayesian forecasting, model-informed precision dosing.
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning: Predictive modelling, deep learning methods, digital twins, reinforcement learning for dose optimization.
Precision Dosing, TDM, & Clinical Toxicology: Data-driven dose adjustment, TDM-guided strategies, toxicity prediction models, integration of real-world data, and safety signal detection.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Model-based strategies to optimize dosing across diverse populations
AI/ML algorithms for dose prediction and toxicity risk assessment in clinical practice
Integration of therapeutic drug monitoring with machine learning-guided clinical decision support
Predictive models addressing rare adverse events and out-of-range drug exposures
Computational tools for real-time feedback on dose adjustments and toxicity mitigation
Comparative evaluations of statistical/pharmacometric approaches vs AI/ML predictive methods
Clinical case studies demonstrating meaningful impact on patient outcomes

Submissions that emphasize clinical translation, methodological innovation, reproducible workflows, and the potential to influence clinical practice are particularly encouraged.

We welcome submissions of Review Articles, Opinion Papers, Original Articles, Short Communications, Grand Rounds/Case Studies, and Letters to the Editor. Please indicate in your cover letter that your manuscript is submitted in response to this Call for Papers.
