TDM India

IATDMCT TDM Education India Webinar

The IATDMCT TDM in India webinar, held on October 8, 2025, showcased cutting-edge innovations in micro sampling devices and best practices in TDM that are shaping the future of precision medicine both in India and globally with insights from the past about a modest beginning of the TDM practices in India. The webinar was chaired by Dr. Nilima A. Kshirsagar and Dr. Smita Pattanaik, moderated by Dr. Sumith Mathew, Dr. Roopali Somani and Dr. Vishnu Eriyat.

Presentations and Learning Objectives

  • Dr. Christophe Stove, President of the IATDMCT, presented the various types of microsampling devices, technologies, their advantages and shortcomings. He further discussed about the issues in standardization and their global impact on TDM practices.
  • Dr. Nilima A. Kshirsagar, India’s leading Clinical Pharmacology expert and World Health Organization consultant, reflected on 50 years of TDM (1975–2025) and outlined future directions for the field in India.
  • Dr. Bhaskar K and Dr. Shivakrishnarao T from KEM Hospital shared evidence-based strategies for determining optimal sampling time-points, crucial for accurate drug monitoring and patient safety.

The speakers facilitated discussions linking practical applications to current clinical challenges.

Key Learning Points

  • Participants learned about Microsampling technologies revolutionizing TDM, enabling precise, less invasive sample collection.
  • Insights were shared on 50 years of TDM in India and strategies to advance practice for the next decade.
  • Attendees understood the Science of Sampling time-points for accurate interpretation of TDM results.
  • Practical tips on implementing Global TDM standards in Indian clinical settings were discussed.

Impact

The webinar benefited over 100 participants from across India, including clinicians, pharmacologists, and laboratory specialists from institutions like KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai. By addressing challenges in sample timing, assay technology, and interpretation, the training strengthens precision medicine efforts and supports safer, more effective drug therapy.

Eight Drugs a Week Episode 15 – Revolution 9: How the microbiome is evolving our understanding of drug disposition

PodcastThe human microbiome, a complex community of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses, doesn't just passively coexist with the drugs we take; it actively participates in a bidirectional relationship that can impact drug efficacy and toxicity. From immunosuppressants in transplant patients to medicines in other fields of medicine, it is becoming apparent that the microbiome has been a missing piece in our understanding of drug variability, and that it can uniquely impact drug interactions. As this field rapidly evolves, it promises new strategies for personalising medicine through microbiome biomarkers and targeted manipulation of our microbial communities. We are joined by Laure Elens and Roland Lawson to discuss this evolving field.
