May is National Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, that is why the Iranian Student Group at UCLA and the Iranian American Women Foundation LA Rising Leaders Board hosted a mental health panel addressing the concerns of the Iranian Diaspora. The speakers included, Azadeh Afsahi, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Sepideh Hakimzadeh is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of Whole Mother Therapy.
Our moderator, LA Rising Leader Board Member, Sheerin Mehdian asked questions that were submitted by the students and attendees prior to the event to provide their insights and led a thought provoking discussion addressing topics such as stress management, anxiety, and cultural stigma.
Those who attended left leaving lighter and felt empowered. The event was free and opened to the public.
