IB Bulldogs Blast

Greetings Tubman Families and Friends,

I would like to thank our Friends of Tubman and all volunteers for a fantastic fundraising event this past Saturday. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Winter break is fastly approaching, and we are looking forward to our school community participating in various events in the coming weeks.

We are excited to welcome our new Restorative Justice Coordinator, Brandon Reynolds, who has already begun providing training and coaching to build capacity within the school community in restorative justice mindset and skills. He will also develop students’ restorative justice skills through peer conferences, restorative justice workshops for students, and restorative justice leadership and facilitation opportunities for students. In partnership with Mr. Reynolds, we have been addressing concerns within our middle school and are leveraging all support within the school community to ensure our students are in the best learning environment. Thank you for your patience and support as we put these systems and structures in place.

Have a fantastic week!

Sincerely,

Principal Carey

Tubman News

NEW: Tubman Arts Integration

Thanks to all who were able to attend the Fall Arts Integration Showcase. The students were so excited to perform in front of a live audience! For anyone who was unable to attend in-person, here is a youtube link of the performance recording.

The annual Dance Show: Back to the Movies is 2 weeks away - December 20 & 21, 2022 at 9AM! Performance information can be found here. Please also review the costume letter. Requirements differ by grade level.

NEW: Survey for Families

We are seeking information about specific site conditions at our school as they relate to Tubman Fine and Performing Arts program, and invite you to complete the survey linked below. Participation is completely anonymous and voluntary and should not take more than 10 minutes of your time. If you’d like to participate, please plan to complete the survey no later than Friday, December 16. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

You can find the survey linked here (available in Spanish by using the drop down menu at the top of the page). Thank you in advance for helping us to make Tubman the best it can be!

NEW: Morning Announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance - Students and staff will be asked to pause for the Pledge of Allegiance and for daily announcements. Students are not required to participate in the morning Pledge or to stand, but all students are asked to remain attentive for the duration of the time. This will occur daily at 7:55 a.m. Please consider having a conversation with your child about your expectations during this time.

REMINDER: Student Council Club Food Drive - Our Student Council Club members have organized a food drive to give to our local community and families in need. We are encouraging Tubman students to donate an item to be placed in their classroom donation box throughout the next four weeks. We are accepting donations of canned foods, dry foods, and toiletries, which will be provided to local shelters and organizations in our community. Please send donations with your child between November 17 and December 16. Thank you for your support!

REMINDER: Students should wear athletic shoes on the days they have dance and PE - no crocs, slippers, sandals, high heels, or open toe shoes or sandals.

REMINDER: Recess & Inclement Weather - Students will have a daily outdoor recess, except when there is inclement weather. This is determined by administration and takes into account many factors, such as, but not limited to temperature and wind chill, active rain or snow, ice on the playground, etc.

Criteria used as general guidelines are:

25 degrees and up - outside

16 - 25 degrees but must have feels like of 20 degrees or higher - outside

16 - 25 degrees but feels like lower than 20 degrees - inside

20 degrees or below - inside

All students are expected to go outside and stay outside for the entire recess period. Students must stay within the predetermined boundaries of the playground during recess period. There are to be no contact games or hard ball games. Any injuries or unsafe conditions should be reported to the supervisor on duty. When the whistle is blown, recess is over. Students should line up quietly and quickly by class. Upon entering the school, students must be quiet and return to their classrooms in an orderly manner, so as not to disturb classes already in session.

REMINDER: Excused Absence Requests Now in Aspen - Parents/Caregivers can now report student absences in Aspen's Parent Portal. This new method is easier as it reduces the need for parents to call, email, or send in paper notes. You can also report absences on multiple days and submit dates in advance for approval.
