IB Bulldogs Blast

Greetings Tubman Families and Friends,

What a way to end week 7 with our 16th Annual Fun Run! This year our school wide theme is Better Together. It is amazing what can truly be accomplished when school leaders, educators, students, families, and our amazing community work together toward a common goal of helping all students succeed! We would like to say thank you to our Friends Of Tubman, sponsors, families, and community members for supporting our fundraising efforts. (Click to view photos from our 16th Annual Fun Run)

Tubman News

NEW: Our lockdown drill will be October 12, 2022.  Please read this letter to find out more information regarding this drill.

NEW: To build camaraderie and increase student attendance on Fridays, we will implement themed dress up days on Fridays for the entire school. Students are not obligated to participate.  Please see the Fun Friday at Tubman schedule.

NEW: Thursday and Friday of next week students with IEPs, 504s, and students who may be evaluated will participate in the hearing & vision screening.

NEW: Tubman Student Council - PINK Out Day: Join our Tubman Student Council in a PINK OUT during Breast Cancer Awareness month! Students are encouraged to wear PINK on Monday, October 24th! Students, parents, caregivers, and staff can use the hearts on the other side to commemorate both loved ones who they have lost to Breast Cancer, as well as survivors. Hearts should be returned to school by Monday, October 24th and will be displayed on the first floor. Thank you from our Tubman Student Council!

NEW: We are currently working with a new photographer to secure a date for pictures. Please look for an email next week with the date for picture day.

NEW: As you know, Hurricane Fiona battered Puerto Rico and has many communities underwater. Today, more than a two weeks later, a significant portion of the island is without power and/or water. Our Local School Council Chair, Illeana Inserni, alongside our Tubman community, is hoping to support local relief efforts in the next several weeks. Locally, the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC) has compiled a list of vetted organizations that are seeking donations. If you would like to know more about the SRBCC, you can do so here: http://segundoruizbelvis.org/about-us/. Please use this link to explore opportunities to help in these relief efforts. In addition, our Tubman students will be sending messages of encouragement to families in Puerto Rico in the weeks to come. Thank you for your support, Tubman Bulldogs!

REMINDER: Do you have an appointment to visit a teacher or to volunteer? If so, don't forget to bring ID as it will be necessary to receive a visitor's pass using the CPS visitor pass system. Simply stop at the security desk so Mr. Harris can give you your visitor badge while you are at Tubman, and make sure you sign our visitors log. All visitors should enter through Door 1.

REMINDER:  CPS Nutrition Support Services is excited to offer MealViewer starting school year 2022-23! This online menu service provides a quick and easy way to view our school’s daily menus. Also, here's the October breakfast and lunch menu.

MealViewer provides:

  • Convenience - Available 24/7 on the web or through our mobile app for your smartphone.
  • Safety – Create profiles for your students and select their allergens. Get alerts each time that allergen is on the menu!
  • Fun Feedback – Let students favorite and rate certain meals so that we ensure we are serving meals they enjoy!

Signing Up is easy!

  1. Go to https://schools.mealviewer.com/district/Chicago%20Public%20Schools or download the mobile app and register for a free account.
  2. Create a profile for you and your students by first selecting their school.
  3. Set up your student’s profile by selecting the appropriate allergens and let them favorite their most loved meals. Now you will receive notifications every time any of these are served

Fall Festival Celebrations - October 31, 2022

Tubman is a community where we are creating an inclusive environment. In keeping with this vision and goal in mind, ALL classes will have Fall Festival Celebrations. Students may put on costumes after arrival to school (or wear under their clothes), and can pass out wrapped items (candy, popcorn, etc.) if they wish. All costumes are expected to align with stipulations in the code of conduct and/or dress code. If students do not celebrate Halloween, they are welcome to participate in all the celebrations because they are fall themed and they can dress as their favorite book character or in their favorite color if they wish. Students will engage in fall theme related activities during the celebration including art, games, and STEM activities.

Please be mindful of the fact that there are students with severe nut allergies in some classrooms. Please encourage students not to bring any treats containing nuts to ensure the health and safety of all.
