Dear Tubman Families,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We have an exciting and informative week ahead as we kick off several great programs.

First, our gym will be open starting tomorrow! We are so excited for our students to finally see and enjoy this refreshed space. We are waiting on the curtains and the partition to be installed this spring!

Friends of Tubman kicked off their annual I ❤️ Tubman pledge drive today. Over the next three weeks, our community will come together to share and show their love for Tubman. This is a special time when our students can express the reasons they love Tubman on a printed heart for a chance to win a prize, and parents and caregivers are asked to consider honoring that love with a pledge or donation. Please visit tubmanpledge.org to get involved. Personally, I have so many reasons why I love Tubman—from the incredible dedication of our staff and the vibrant energy of our students to our wonderful, involved parent community. Your support truly makes Tubman a special place to be!

We are also pleased to announce that Tubman Tutoring is returning for our 6th–8th grade students. This program will be run by students from Walter Payton College Prep High School and will be supervised by me. Tutoring will take place on Wednesdays from 3:00–3:45 PM, beginning February 11th and ending May 13th (please note we will not have tutoring on March 11, 18, or 25). If you are interested in your child attending, please fill out this form.

Finally, we will conduct a shelter-in-place drill this Thursday morning. The purpose of this drill is to provide a refuge for students and staff inside the school building during an emergency, such as severe weather, a hazardous material release outdoors, or a threat of violence in the neighborhood. Shelter-in-place is used when evacuation would place people at risk. During the drill, we move to interior safe locations and students are asked to "stop, cover, and hold" to protect themselves from flying or falling debris. These drills are essential for ensuring our entire school community stays prepared and safe.

Please join me on Wednesday morning at 8:00am in the lunchroom for our Coffee with the Principal event! I would love to connect!
