Dear Tubman Families,

I hope you enjoyed a relaxing long weekend with your loved ones over Labor Day! We have a few important updates to share as we move into this short but busy week together.

We’re excited to share that CPS has approved an additional SECA (Special Education Classroom Assistant) position based on our Day 5 enrollment review, which will provide more support for our students.

We would like to provide the YMCA staff with feedback on aftercare and your child’s lunch/recess experience. We are asking for your feedback here.  Your feedback will be shared directly with our YMCA staff to continue to strengthen our partnership.

I also want to take a moment to share that I am a SAMS principal as part of the National SAM Innovation Project. SAMS stands for School Administration Manager, and it is designed to help principals dedicate more time to instructional leadership, working closely with teachers to improve student achievement and school performance. This means that my focus will be even more on what happens in the classroom, supporting both students and staff in reaching their full potential. To make sure that I’m able to prioritize instructional time, I have put together a First Responders List—a team of staff members who are here to help you with a variety of needs and questions. This list will be included at the bottom of each Bulldog Blast for your reference. If you need assistance or have a concern, these staff members are available to support you: First Responder List for Parents

Due to financial constraints, CPS is no longer providing paper towels in bathrooms that have hand dryers, so students will be using hand dryers moving forward. This is a change that is happening across the district this year. Thank you for helping us remind students of this change.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming you to our Open House this Thursday, September 4th from 4:00–6:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, I’ll be hosting an optional parent session, “Understanding Bullying: Prevention and Intervention.” Students may attend, though this session is designed specifically for parents. Classroom presentations will follow, with two time slots to accommodate families: 4:40–5:10 PM and 5:20–5:50 PM. Children are welcome to join parents for these sessions as well.

In partnership,

Principal Hammaker
